LUCID FLY
To be honest it takes a strong woman to win me over either by singing presence or her personality. In the world of rock they have come and gone and I'm thinking the boys are going to own it once again in this business. That was until I came across Nikki Layne, the front woman for Florida based LUCID FLY.The three songs on the disc drive with raw emotion, dark edgy arrangements and vocals that purely send off a rough exterior with some mesmerizing melodic tones that range from high to low in mere minutes. BLIND is my favorite, its rough, its soaring with intricate guitar solos and like I said powerful, flexible vocals. COLLIDE has more endearing qualities with its light emotion through the verses and then makes you flustered with a solid rock chorus. CENTER OF YOUR SPACE ends the disc. This song combines both elements of the prior songs into one. LUCID FLY reigns with a rock edgy feel and a female vocalist that gives girls the power back in rock n roll.

Lucid Fly - Demo
Reviewed by: Jenny Stepp (www.sonicrampage.com)

Starting a garage band is something that many people do, but few truly excel at. Lucid Fly is a rock band that does just that. They are a shining jewel, fighting for recognition in an enormous musical pool dominated by male lead singers.

Lucid Fly formed in Orlando, FL in early 1999. Their current demo is presently riding near perfect ratings on www.garageband.com. A catchy and distinctive name, along with a dynamic female lead singer helps set this group apart from the pack.

"Blind" draws you in with a quiet introduction, gaining volume as it adds a few simple guitar notes. An occasional bass drum thump hints at the explosion of music that awaits. When the full force of the music impacts, the collaboration of instruments is set to the perfect head bobbing pace, with an addictive drumbeat that seduces you. If it hasn't hooked you yet, then the deal is sealed in the next thirty seconds when you hear lead singer Nikki Layne's flawless, and yes, lucid voice. Superb vocals, infectious percussion, and an electrifying guitar solo make this song so balanced that it's nearly impossible to determine what aspect you like best. "Blind" is four minutes of solid enjoyment and my personal favorite of the three songs on this demo.

The other two tracks are as equally strong. "Center Of Your Space" has an unforgettable bass line and flaunts Layne's ability to glide into different intonations effortlessly. "Collide" shifts the pace down a notch, bringing out a melodic acoustic guitar for each verse, but then smoothly transitioning to a powerful emotion driven chorus. You'll not only appreciate the sheer vocal beauty, but also the amazing interaction among the group and how they are each fundamental to creating the overall breathtaking results.

Melodic and as hard as nails
author: Lawrence Rich
This isn’t a pop rock CD with a ditzy female vocalist. This is Lucid Fly. Nikki Layne’s eccentric melodies will slap you right in the face from the get go. Each song on ‘Adapting To Gravity’ will have you loving every single hook Lucid Fly throw at you. Firstly “No Sleep” pulls you in and keeps you there for a constant melodic war on your ears. The second track on the album “Splinter” drives along with more insane melody and power chords as hard as steel. “Collide” shows part of the more mellow and fragile side of Lucid Fly as it starts almost like a gentle ballad then the chorus crashes into you with power chords the size of stadiums. The fourth track on the album “Parallel” reminds me of the uncompromising style of Staind. The track “Blind” is my personal favourite, in this track Lucid Fly have created musical heroin, and you just have to keep listening to it over and over again. The anthem that is “Blind” show passion and flare are definitely part of the repertoire of Lucid Fly. Soaring vocals that reach the sky are on order when you listen to the sixth track “11th Hour”. The final track on the album “Center Of Your Space”, rounds off what is a musical A-bomb. It pulverises and leaves you wanting more rock punishment. At only seven tracks “Adapting To Gravity” is short but it leaves you craving more of the crazy melodies and hard-edged riffs heard on every track on the album. On the basis of this album Lucid Fly is a band going places at breakneck speed. Lucid Fly shatters every rock stereotype around so if you like your music different and ‘outside of the box’ buy "Adapting To Gravity" now!

heavy hitting sound with strong vocals...
author: Kayla Anderson / Connections Magazine
Local rock band Lucid Fly has a heavy-hitting sound with strong vocals by sexy frontwoman Nikki Layne. They sound like a mixture of their influences, A Perfect Circle and Sevendust, along with an original style that makes this band one of Orlando's finest. After being around the local scene for quite a while and going through a seemingly endless revolving door of band members, the band's debut CD has been long awaited. "11th Hour" is my favorite song--with a slow beginning and excellent guitar strumming with bursts of rock throughout. Nikki Layne throws her whole voice into the music and the rest of the band keeps up in perfect tempo.

Meaningful, hardhitting, thought-provoking lyrics delivered with a smoothe, hard
author: LAM-LIFELONG FAN!!!
Creative CD & song titles that, when unwrapped, reveal what you'd hope for...& more. For a band new on the scene, their entry is explosive. The whole CD offers a great contrast b/t melodic female vocalist & hard unexpected riffs & rhythms. "No Sleep"'s dreamlike vocal effects on Nikki Layne's crystal clear vocal tones flow smoothely over the uniquely complementing guitar, bass, & drum. No drowning out of vocals here...this band is pro at their writing, performing, & recording. All musicians are strong & yet no one overpowers anyone. Very tight. "Splinter"-a good introspective on human interaction. "Collide"- what can I say? Doug Mecca is a versatile, extremely gifted guitarist. The band once again comes together to demo their unique style of melodic & heavy abilities at once. This song showcases the individual talents as well. "Parallel" & "11th Hour"-heavier, dark; emotional chilling vocals. "Blind"-AMAZING, POWERFUL...all the way! Killer vocals, guitar, drumming, honest lyrics. "Center of Your Space" strong finish to a great CD. Impressive diversity on 1 CD...so much talent in 1 cohesive band! Live or in studio, this band rocks! Definitely promising. This is hopefully CD#1 of an extensive Lucid Fly collection.
