Album Notes

Hitting rock bottom gives you two choices: survive or die. At only twenty-one years of age, Lucky Lucianni had already found himself on the surviving end of this decision countless times. His family-born cycle of drugs, abuse, and violence led to a collection of multiple felonies, a few too many overdoses, and forced enrollment in a behavior modification center by age fifteen, where his lifelong love for music was fed only by late night sessions with a FM radio. Almost two years passed with his life and dreams put on hold, being brainwashed in an unknown mountain range, the radio waves his only solace. When he was finally released in a mental fog, his keepers believed he had been reprogrammed to live the life of a good, moral member of society. However, the learned behavior that earned him his freedom was quickly forgotten the minute his feet hit the streets of San Jose, California once again. Lucky was born out of this dramatic shift from light to darkness; from the glossy utopian ideals he was fed while in rehab, to the harsh, grim realities of day to day life in the city. At first, he set out to find freedom by simply joining the ranks of the violent masses: once again doing drugs, committing petty crimes, and generally being a detriment to the proper functions of society. His natural ambition was evident, and even though his aim was destructive, he chased his goal with fierce determination. His journey into the gutter didn’t bother him at all. Content with his dangerous addictions, hair-trigger temper, and steadily growing rap sheet of close encounters with violence and the law, Lucky lived and loved the derelict life. This careless phase of his life lasted until the night he was attacked with a sledgehammer during a fight with four neighborhood thugs. He was hit six times in the face and head. Afterwards, he stood up from his pool of blood and walked away, deciding then and there to rise above the conditions he had been striving to survive in. He chose his lifelong love, music, as his weapon of choice. His new goal: rising above the violent masses and leading those who still dream out of the downward spiral he had violently found himself in. He cut many of his ties with the streets, instead focusing all of his energy towards his craft and his mission: to create music so full of passion that it moves his listeners, while also reflecting the life he leads. His hard work began to pay off in early 2004 with the release of his first demo, “Takin’ My Cut”, which was spread with burned CD’s and by word of mouth, while being met with positive responses. During that same year he befriended and began working with two local producers, Steve Murr of Keymaster Studios and PJ of Haji Beats. On April 20th of 2005, after months of work and scraping money together, Lucky independently released his first official album, “On This I Stand.” Things finally seemed to be headed in a new direction for Lucky Lucianni. However, one month after the release of “On This I Stand”, his father was found in a forest on the east coast, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Rock bottom never tells you when it’s coming; but Lucky is used to its dark, musty feel. Despite the overwhelming events of his life, he somehow mustered the strength to stay focused. He flew directly from his father’s funeral to Colorado to perform at his first show, as one of the opening acts under Lil Flip at an event hosted by Young Fri of the Turf Hawg Cartel. When he returned, he took time off of work, grabbed his pen and paper, and locked himself in the lab. Dark nights and a darker mood kept Luck’s mind off the rough events of his life. Endlessly writing lyrics in his head, on the road, in bed, and anywhere else the urge hit him; he purged the pain and began to piece together the skeleton of what would become “A Thousand Thoughts A Second”. The album was to be a simultaneous bitter reminiscing and bloody tribute to the hard hand Luck had been dealt. The album dropped on Februay 13th, 2007 after a long, self-imposed delay. Luck still had peace to make - within and without - before “A Thousand Thoughts A Second” was ready to be released publicly. Once the voices inside his head settled, he decided it was time and finally freed the beast to the outside world. Since then, he has been constantly performing at various venues throughout San Jose and even as far south as Brookdale. Lucky Lucianni has rocked Johnny V’s, The Voodoo Lounge, Brookdale Lodge, Streetlight Records, and South First Billiards. He is a Resident MC of The Cypher, freestyling at least three nights a week at both Johnny V’s and The Voodoo Lounge. This July he is performing with San Jose’s own Kung Fu Vampire at The Blank Club. This is an MC with a starvation level hunger and an undying work ethic. His poetical, insightful, and simultaneously self-deprecating and inspiring flow was tempered throughout the long, late nights of partying, staying out of jail, and finding light in all the darkest corners of life; forging a style sharp enough to cut even the most casual listener. Lucky Lucianni is a Mic Boss on the rise, gifted with gab and the ability to ink songs with blood directly from the heart. In an industry full of questionable credibility, this MC puts his soul on the line in an effort to the turn the tides. His work will inspire some, shame others, and carry on forever. He will not be stopped. He is Lucky Lucianni.

Lucky Lucianni's lyrics tell of the unspeakable horrors that he endured growing up. How does society expect him to "be normal" when he's living with the tragic memories of divorce, suicide, alcoholism, neglect & verbal/physical abuse? How does Luck prevent himself from following the same vicious cycle that others, so selfishly set up for him? How does he prevent himself from unleashing the same violence & abuse on those around him... Through his music. Listen very closely to Lucky Lucianni's lyrics. Sound familiar? Understand them? Identify with them? Perhaps lived the same tragic life? These poignant, permiating, & preponderant, hard hitting lyrics tell a story of an artist who, amazingly & against all odds, has risen up to turn the down right nightmare of his life into some of the most powerful music I have ever heard! Just a quick inside look at the artist. This man is powerful!!! People are drawn to him & held spellbound by his power. Where ever he is, he commands the situation, & without you even knowing it... You're enchanted, mesmerized, & completely hooked! Lucky Lucianni has the gravitational force of the sun, & just like that massive interstellar body, you're sucked in to his orbit. Don't look in to his eyes or you'll be consumed. A sick little side note... I understand how Charles Manson charmed his followers, just like Luck does. He's got the power. In all honesty, I think all of us in Luck's hometown sleep a little sounder knowing that his weapon of choice is the microphone, rather that a gun, a knife, a rope, or God forbid... His bare hands. ON THIS I STAND is a wild ride. A journey into the depths of a tortured soul that has found an outlet for his anguish, anger, digust, & depression. As long as Lucky is recording, we're safe for now. Lucky Lucianni's lyrics in ON THIS I STAND are venomous, cryptic, aggressive, dark, bewitching, troubling, possessed, vexing, depraved, suicidal & villainous! I can hardly wait for his follow up album A THOUSAND THOUGHTS A SECOND!!! Keep your eye on this artist!!! You're a star Luck!!!

Impressive!

I bought this CD off of one of his friends not really caring to listen to it. Popped it in my deck and right away this guy got down to business by spitting 66 bars(I've counted, try it yourself!) on a track cleverly titled "Sixty6" bars. My personal favorite track is "Trippin'" which seems like a wise choice for a single. Apparently all the stories he tells about true which means this guy must really be a nut! As far as style, I've never really heard anything like his before; twisted, dark, sly, at times humorous. I rated it a 5 because there are very few CDs that constantly get rotation on my deck (especially indie CDs). I say give it a try! For $5, you won't be disappointed. His friend told me that he's coming out with another CD in 2006. Can't wait to see if he can top his debut!
