ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A friend of a friend knew a lady with a castle just outside Limerick, Ireland, so we stopped in one cold night, knocked on a giant wooden door and spent the next few days wandering from the depths of cold stone rooms to a high, flat, Welsh slate roof, standing in the rain as a green river raged far below. It wasn't a B&B, but a rural 14th century castle that smelled of mold, wet dogs and a wood fire that blazed in a room-sized fireplace.
We sang a lot of songs there.
In one small room we discovered an 11th century chair with a carved baby dragon on its backrest. I snapped a photo and we used it as the cover of this CD.
It set the theme.
On the back cover is a photo of Sligo, Ireland, near the Famine Memorial and a block away from the Harp Tavern, where great Jazz is played on Sundays.
Inside the CD case is a photo of a road sign between Memphis, Tennessee, and hundreds of miles of flat Alabama red clay and rangy cotton. The sign, like most along this route, promises ELVIS PRESLEY LANDMARKS. We were in Memphis for the North American Folk Alliance where we showcased some of these songs in the CMT Room. Outside, thunderstorms shook the walls.
Another road trip, surviving on Champagne and Pecan Sandies, held together by a mix of folk, honky-tonk, blues and rock, with a scattering of Celtic songs. Music has taken us from Key West, Florida, to The Forge in Bandera, Texas - from the main stage of the Florida Folk Festival to the stage of the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar, Ireland. Music is everything.

The first song - Cold, Black Water, is about finding your way in the wake of the flood. Or hurricane.
Dancin' with the Devil is a moody, sexy song....the kind Maggie is so good at writing and singing. LuAnne is the story of a man we've all seen. The kind you'd like to put distance between. He has an old Harley jacket that's a little too small that he bought years ago at St. Vincent DePaul's, and one of those blue, ballpoint pen tattoos that just says, 'born to lose.' He likes to say he was a man with a plan, but it all fell apart when he met LuAnne.
Saturday Night Cockfight is a family love story from Southeast Louisiana. Really. Ghosts honors those footsteps we walk in.
I've stood on Drika's grave.
She Ran is a story of all those girls who do just that, and I Will Protect You is almost a lullaby.
I Am Your County I wrote in a dream. Go figure.
Mississippi Queen is Maggie again, strutting her stuff - "Got me a man....got me a car....got me a lover hanging off the end of the bar..."
Silly Broken Heart - Maggie's song about one broken heart in a world going to hell. You Make Me Sing is an ode to love and Bulldog is an ode to Whiskey. Every Minute of the Day is pure old Pop, with Maggie backed up by the Dashboard Chihuahuas. How could you go wrong?
We hope you enjoy Karmageddon.
