Album Notes

Lud is one of the most infamous bands never to emerge from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metroplex. For 17 years, this rock monster has roamed the clubs in the area, releasing four CDs, two bootlegs and one cassette EP along the way. For their fifth record, the appropriately and presciently titled V, Lud’s core of singer/guitarist Kirk Ross, lead guitarist Bryon Settle and drummer Lee Waters(The Essex Green, Work Clothes) is joined by Anthony Lener (bass), Sara Bell (vocals/keyboards,) Jill Christensen (accordion/vocals) and Mark Simonsen (vibes).

V marks the first time the band has worked with an outside producer and the collaboration with Brian Paulson(Beck, Wilco, Superchunk) has yielded an album with an extraordinarily lush and live atmosphere. Like all of Lud’s works, V offers a song cycle woven with universal themes of love, conflict, childhood and social, economic and political upheaval.
