Up until a year ago most of the people who knew Luis Moreno were shopping at a local Long Island nursery inquiring him about their horticultural landscape needs. Sure, a couple years back Lu put out a cd of solo acoustic cover tunes - a tribute to musical hero’s like Springsteen. Lu gave copies away for free and that was that. Until recently the only thing Lu had to look forward to was waking up to a 10 hour 6 day a week job working for a garden center. Things have changed.
This year Moreno has emerged as a revealing and powerful songwriter with the release of his debut album, This Is Me, a powerful and bitter sweet rock and roll journey entirely penned and recorded within the last year. This Is Me was produced, tracked and mixed by singer-songwriter / producer Doug Kwartler at Kwartler’s Hollow Body Studios in both New York, NY and Boston, MA. It is an 11-song record with both muscular and haunting arrangements recalling the best of both acoustic folk as well as powerful classic rock along with some americana country in the mix. Inspired by raw stories about growing up in a fractured home, Moreno finds the guts to accept his brokenness and do something about it.
So how does a “retail manager” who had never written a song before in his life, come to release a heart breaking original rock record like This Is Me?
“Divine intervention is my only guess.” Moreno says.
“My journey is that of a man who at five years of age found that mother’s milk was poisoned, that father was no good, and how to build a wall against his own wants and needs as a result. My album is reflective of the consequences a decision like that creates in a world of relations and of love.
I see the rawness in my heart, the ability to pen the music inside me and my friendship with my producer as part of the tools I’ve been given for a greater good.”
“If anyone can connect with the music I create… well, then my record has done its job.”
