Album Notes

LuLu and the TomCat have been described as creative, energetic, enthusiastic, very child friendly, with a highly interactive stage show, a musical extravaganza of sing-alongs, storytelling, puppetry and participation. A wonderful atmosphere of fun and laughter, with a colourful catalogue of tunes... a fresh and fun approach to family "edu-tainment." As international "edu-tertainers," these multiple award winning "cool cats" have also performed in schools and community centres in Cuba, and represented Canada at the World Expo in Japan.

They will be presenting to the South West Conference of Language Teachers in Las Vegas, Nevada, in April of 2007.

LuLu and the TomCat have been involved in music and education for many years, creating fun and educational materials for children. With experience as teacher and librarian, they have long recognized the benefits of using music to teach reading. LuLu teaches Early Years French Immersion, and writes and produces music and stories for her multiple award-winning group, LuLu and the TomCat, with her husband and former public school librarian, the TomCat. LuLu and the TomCat's recording, All the Cats Were Playin', received a Prairie Music Award for "Outstanding Children's Recording." The title track also received an "Honourable Mention" in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Their recording 3, 2, 1 Kadoozee, received a Parents' Choice Silver Award, a Canadian Children's Book Centre "Our Choice" award, and a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Children's Album. Their recording Stick To It! received a Parents' Choice Recommended Award, and a Children's Music Web Award.

They have opened for Fred Penner in concert as well as released a series of children's books, based on songs from their recordings.

Using enticing music and rhyming stories is a fun way to help children learn to read. LuLu and the TomCat know how to hook kids on reading. Their upbeat melodies with companion colouring books are designed to challenge children while showing them just how fun reading can be. Classic and original children's poems and stories are set to music to draw children into the magical world of reading. Adorable colouring pages keep young readers focused and involved.

Great songs for teachers as well!

My students especially love Aloha Hula Wula, 3, 2, 1 Kadoozee, Teddy Bear's Picnic, and Ten Little Kittens. I use the Kadoozee and Kittens songs to re-inforce alphabet and subtraction skills respectively in my class. The songs get to you. I even wake up at night realizing the songs have gone through my head! They are catchy and enjoyable! Some of my students in grade 1 are even trying to learn the alphabet backwards, like in Kadoozee! I had the opportunity to see Lulu and the Tomcat at an inservice in Manitoba last year and was reaffirmed to hear that some kids learn through music, one of the many learning styles. I also passed on the French songs to our teachers of French. Hopefully they can use some of these to enhance their teaching.

we giggled and danced til we fell down

The boys really enjoyed Aloha Hula Wula – they were trying to hula and giggled until they fell down; they also loved Teddy Bears’ Picnic and went crazy dancing and jumping around. I know they’ll really enjoy the Sing-A-Books too because at age 2, the visual will help them connect more to the songs. - Shirlyn, auntie of Scott and Cole age 2

Ten Little Kittens the best

We enjoyed Ten Little Kittens the best. Jarrett is only 21 months, but I know when he’s a little older and can sing along better with the songs, he will enjoy it even more. We’ll definitely be looking for LuLu and The TomCat in the future. - Shawna, mom to Jarrett age 21 months

We definitely want to see more LuLu and The TomCat!

After listening to Aloha Hula Wula, my 6-year old son now wants to go to Hawaii! He thought the words were funny and "pretty silly." He also liked the "mixed up alphabet" wording on 3-2-1 Kadoozee and I marveled at their ability to keep it all straight! My 3-year old daughter really liked Ten Little Kittens because it was cute and she also sang along with the alphabet song. I think they liked the weird voices and the crazy wording on ALL the songs. We will definitely continue to see LuLu and the TomCat live in concert. - Keith, dad to 6-year-old boy and 3-year old girl
