notes
Introducing Lume, the sound of shimmering guitar rock and a story about five people who formed a band to write and play meaningful songs with real honesty and passion. The band has distinguished themselves through their captivating music, strikingly powerful lyrics, and burning passion for songs erupting with energy and meaning.
"We've been sincere about what we do from the beginning--we want to make you feel something," says singer Tom Hockensmith.
Officially forming in the summer of 2000, Lume's musical vision has always remained one of originality and integrity. The musical and lyrical content of their material runs as deep and is as varied as the members' personalities. The songs are catchy but sincere, unique but natural, complex but organic, dark but uplifting; a refreshing twist on an otherwise dull and predictable musical landscape.
Lume's debut EP (titled Extended Play), a basement recording released independently, received a welcoming response from college radio airwaves in the fall of 2002, peaking at #98 on the CMJ Top 200 Albums Chart. In 2002 they also had the second highest selling album at CD Warehouse in Nashville, directly behind multi-platinum band Coldplay.
In Spring 2003 Lume began a second EP recorded by engineering/production team Russ Long and Chris Grainger (Wilco, Sixpence). Another college radio promotion in late 2003 and early 2004 saw EP2 peak at #82 and stay in the CMJ Top 100 chart for six weeks. In addition, the five-song collection has been used on the NBC show "Road to the Ironman", several episodes of "Camp Gym" on MTV, and landed the band a showcase in the annual South by Southwest music conference.
A full-length project is scheduled for release in early 2005. Produced by Mark Nash, the band has stretched themselves further and explored new territory, even co-writing a song with Emerson Hart of Tonic. Ultimately, Lume hopes to continue affecting the ears and minds of as many listeners as possible by presenting them with the tasteful, sincere and passionate energy found in their music.

One of my new favorite CDs
author: MI lurve this CD. All the songs are great with my fave being the cowboy song. I can't believe this band hasn't made it to the big time - mainstream - in a top 40'ish kind of way. When they do, I hope they stay true to their glorious sound. This band is a gem. EP2 is on my list of future buys.
Gorgeous, intelligent rock
author: Janne BurkeThis is beautiful, thought-provoking rock, but not in a preachy or political way. Its rich lyrical imagery is wrapped in complex melodies and yet manages to escape being tedious and self-indulgent. I hope to catch LUME live and I can't wait for their full-length CD!
Great quality music from some Nashvillians...
author: JohnThis is a very well written/produced CD. I saw Lume live and they totally rocked my face off...so I bought there CD. Very creative and experimental. May be a little hard to sing along with, however. Overall, it's worth your cash.
Think the CD is good? Here them live!
author: Tiffany BethLume is awesome! The CD is amazing, but you know what? The live show is even better! They are energetic, entertaining, and the musical sound is out of this world! If you liked the CD I encourage you to see them live! If you don't have the CD get it! It's one of the best out there on the local music front. Raw talent like Lume is a rare find.
Beautiful
author: EllenI absolutely love this album! I heard about it from a friend that knows the guys. I just thought he was saying it was good because they are his friends. Boy was I wrong! I immediately went out and bought a copy for myself and it hasn't left my cd player. I highly recommend it!
Wow
author: RachaelAwesome site. Hey guys! Good luck with it! Hey Micah. This is Rachael Mann, Rebekka's sister! Hey good luck!
This is a keeper...
author: LoganIf you want to hear talent at its best form, buy this CD. Lume takes their emotion and re-creates it in musical form at its best. For a up-and-coming band, this cd shows that you dont have to have thousands of dollars to create a beautiful album. Good job guys...
Great Sound!
What can I say about this album? I can begin with the fact the the members are VERY talented. They really have a nack for this! It is a wonderful new sound in the world of music! I wish you all continued enjoyment from playing what you live for! It is all about how a note or lyric can make a person feel or see a situation in a new way. If you can bring a goosebump or a smile or even a tear you have reached a person with a talent that not all are lucky enough to have. Just know that you have reached this one! Thank you! GREAT CD!
