Prophetic Guesses is the third album from Luna Trick and the hardest and darkest to date. A much more guitar oriented sound this time out, Daniel Staniforth explores the alt-rock realms between funk, ethereal, industrial, psych-jazz, and rock.
The thing that makes Luna Trick stand out among alt-rock artists is his extraordinary singing voice ... deep and resonant and full of expression. And he writes excellent songs with intelligent lyrics. Apart from a couple of more ethereal pieces, this album is dark and guitar-driven with a very tightly played and strong sense of rhythm.
Stand out tracks include the exquisitely melodic "Night Healer", the richly textured "The Potter's Wheel" with its warm soft vocals spun around a wall of crunchy guitar, the Bowiesque vocals on "Lost Circus", and the darkly ethereal "Magic Shadow".
From Terrascope (November):
"Prophetic Guesses" is the fourth album from classically trained English multi-instrumentalist Daniel Staniforth, trading under the name Luna Trick. Loosely categorised as "gothic rock", and nicely dark and dense it is in places. It also displays a nice diversity of musical styles without becoming a dog’s breakfast. Staniforth’s resonant vocals, which are pitched somewhere between Scott Walker and Kevin Ayers, and sometimes pyrotechnic guitar are both prominently showcased. Over 15 tracks there is a great game of "spot-the- influence" to be played (you can then score yourself against the list on the web link and it is possible to imagine certain established artists successfully covering much of what’s on offer here. This is a fine effort that deserves its share of commercial success and critical recognition. Well done, chap!

This album is outstanding!

Daniel's vocals have oft been compared to the inimitable David Bowie, and how's that for irony? Comparable to an inimitable artist? Yet there is great truth in that comparison. The charm and style of his voice is special and memorable. His talents.... playing so many different instruments with skill and ease, not to mention inspiration, added to his outstanding voice, make this a must buy for every music enthusiast! I HIGHLY recommend this one!
