Album Notes

LUTSINGA is composed of musicians from different walks of life who enjoy performing a mixture of South Afrikan rhythms and folk songs, township jive, jazz, reggae, funk and mbaqanga. When all these sounds are put in the crucible, the results are potent.

The ideology of Lutsinga's music is 'Khuvhangano' - harmony, collaboration and togetherness. The group was initiated by singer/songwriter Thilivhali Tshivhase and Scott "Sven" Vento in collaboration with Matome Somo, Carlton Lowe and Jeff Weinmann. "Bring Babylon Down," Lutsinga's debut release, also features Cecil "Pnut" Daniels on MIDI horn and Seattle-based pianist and composer John Chmaj.

LUTSINGA is the Venda word for 'vein' - the main vein through which these melodious rhythms and sounds flow. We hope the music will soothe your spirit and encourage tolerance, harmony, peace and justice.
