Like fall leaves delicately landing in a pile of weathered friends, Lylas whispers her songs on the breaths of slow picked guitars, lazy banjos, and whistful croonings.

notes
Lylas... "Makes a Friend," is a document of old and new. This mini-album marks the first, official release of these Nashville locals who have been writing and playing since 2000.
Fronted by songwriter, Kyle Hamlett, the group began in a quiet, little corner of Murfreesboro, TN. Being the college town that it is, numerous music acts get their start in this small scene. However, Lylas spent most of its time shying away from the live show, and concentrating on recordings which are showcased on this release.
"... Makes a Friend" is a dichotomy of early and new material. The first half of the album consists of tracks recorded as early as 2001 while the last half suggests where Hamlett's songwriting is headed.
The essence of Lylas is, on the whole, rooted in a more traditional method of songwriting. There are traces of numerous influences, including folk, pop, bluegrass, and even rock but, Lylas manages to channel these ideas into a cohesive sound, guided by Hamlett's delicate vocals.
"... Makes a Friend" is the perfect album to play on a warm, sunny, Sunday morning, as well as a cold, rainy afternoon. The songs are easy going and sparse while remaining contemplative and sincere.
Check out this first release by one of Nashville's new and promising songwriters.

An amazing cd by a band to be watched.
author: K. SmokeLylas are a band that turn unexpected musical corners, pulling you along with them as they explain themselves in lyrics that paint entire provocative worlds. The songs are often gently delivered, over swirling and intricate music, but the words pack an emotional punch and resonate with deep, sometimes dark passion. Repeated listens only prove more compelling. This is a band to watch, with much up its collective sleeve!
