Album Notes

This CD comes from a live radio broadcast via WDET-FM in Detroit, Michigan on October 12, 1974. The Lyman Woodard Organization was in residence at J.J.'s Lounge in the Shelby Hotel working six nights a weeks for well over a year. Some of the material will be familiar to those who own their 1975 classic "Saturday Night Special". The producer of this CD, Leonard King Jr., refers to it as "Saturday Night Special Live" because the group had evolved over several months of steady work beginning in the Fall of 1973. The music is funky but adventurously eclectic because the group was very conscious of not being pidgeon-holed musically. Also during the mid-70's, the energy in many areas of music was very assertive. The Lyman Woodard Organization was very active in forging its own path and support for the group was outstanding. Be sure and listen to way its members bounce ideas off of each other very cohesively.
