Album Notes

The Lyman Woodard Trio, prior to name being changed to the Lyman Woodard Organization in mid 1974, began in September, 1973 at the Hobby Bar on the westside of Detroit, Michigan with the 2nd edition of the Trio (the first consisting Woodard, Dennis Coffey, & Melvin Davis). In April 1974 the group relocated to J.J's Lounge inside the Shelby Hotel in downtown Detroit and began a lengthy stay--four nights a week evolving into six nights for over a year.

These recordings find the trio performing during their first month at J.J.'s Lounge (tracks 1-4), then almost 20 years later at Sully Roadhouse in Dearborn, Michigan on a very hot 90 degree-plus evening in front of old and new fans who knew the group from their famous 1975 release, 'Saturday Night Special' and numerous live performances. This CD captures the trio in a variety of grooves that differs from its other recordings.
