Album Notes

LOOKING GLASS, her first CD release (1993) is still a favorite among many fans who loved her singing. Compared to Sarah McLaughlin, Karla Bonoff and Karen Carpenter, her alto voice is rich, and the writing is good. Check it out.

Lynda Lybeck-Robinson is a Northwest Native pianist, singer/songwriter and educator, who found her niche and her love in the wild frontier of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.

Her piano chops reflect a rich history of influences. Years of performing as a pianist, vocalist and arranger for vocal jazz groups, music theater, and serious classical music have influenced her music. What results is a diverse and pleasing mix of jazzy pop and oldies, added to her repertoire of rich, classically oriented original compositions.

As a performer, Lynda has performed as a solo pianist and pianist/vocalist in Norway, Japan, Turkey, and the Western United States from Albuquerque to Seattle, including stints in Hawaii and Dutch Harbor, Alaska. As a composer, her credits include a movie score for “Cartwheel”, an art film directed by Scott Jackman, “Flowers” directed by John Day, and several commercial spots.

Lynda Lybeck married in 2002, and, with her husband, is raising their two sons on a small island in the Aleutians off the coast of Alaska. Their company, Robinson Crusoe Music, features a private teaching studio with 35 (\'07-\'08) students, a recording studio, and a new non-profit venture called the Hearts and Hands Project. For the fans of Discovery Channel\'s \"Deadliest Catch\", you might be familiar with the name Dutch Harbor, America\'s #1 fishing port. Here\'s a tender side of a tough, hard working community. For more information about her teaching, her music, her island home, and the Hearts and Hands Project, visit her website at www.lyndalybeck.com. All are welcome.

RECORDINGS

AN ALEUT LULLABY (December 2007) A collection of classic jazz greats sung as lullabies, including Nature Boy, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Hushabye Mountain, and two songs sung in Aleut, the Native language of her husband. Recorded and produced in the wild frontier of Alaska, this gently exquisite collection is one well worth waiting for. Produced by Northstar Productions, Scott Hyble, Portland OR

AN ALEUTIAN NOEL (Coming September 2008) Currently in production: Christmas favorites, Lybeck originals celebrating Aleutian life during the holidays. Also: Two songs sung in Aleut (Unangam Tunuu) and one traditional Russian-Aleut Christmas “Starring” song Nebo I Zemlya.

HEARTS AND HANDS:MAIDEN VOYAGE (May 2007)
All 31 of Lynda\'s Unalaska/Dutch Harbor school age students wrote music during the \'06-\'07 schoolyear, and the work is immortalized on this surprising, beautifully assembled collection. 100% proceeds go to the Hearts and Hands Project, a fund set aside to bring composers to their remote island for annual concert and workshops for the community, as well as to fund an annual CD project for the kids. Produced by Northstar Productions, Scott Hyble, Portland OR

BEHIND THE MASK (1995) “Frankly romantic, classically influenced piano pop” …the Oregonian. Instrumental originals- easy listening. Produced by Michael Allen Harrison in Portland OR

BECAUSE YOU ASKED (1994-re-release date 2008) Most requested piano solos from her days in the trenches playing hotels and restaurants in the 80’s and 90’s

LOOKING GLASS, her first CD release (1993) Grass roots, piano vocals, singer/songwriter. Pretty good first effort. (still a favorite of many)

What a voice!

This one is obviously her first one- the production is more grass roots. but the quality of her writing, musicianship and -that voice!- makes the production actually charming. Makes you see the quality stripped of the mask of high production so common these days. I give it 5 stars and hope she's releasing another one soon!!
