Album Notes

BEHIND THE MASK (1995)was produced at MAH Studios by Michael Allen Harrison, hugely popular contemporary jazz pianist/composer/producer. It’s all instrumental, and the reviews were shining. Long time fans miss her vocals, but new listeners are instantly seduced by the beautiful writing which covers a wide range of color from sunny to melancholy, thoughtful to playful.

Lynda Lybeck-Robinson is a Northwest Native pianist, singer/songwriter and educator, who found her niche and her love in the wild frontier of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.

Her piano chops reflect a rich history of influences. Years of performing as a pianist, vocalist and arranger for vocal jazz groups, music theater, and serious classical music have influenced her music. What results is a diverse and pleasing mix of jazzy pop and oldies, added to her repertoire of rich, classically oriented original compositions.

As a performer, Lynda has performed as a solo pianist and pianist/vocalist in Norway, Japan, Turkey, and the Western United States from Albuquerque to Seattle, including stints in Hawaii and Dutch Harbor, Alaska.. As a composer, her credits include a movie score for “Cartwheel”, an art film directed by Scott Jackman, “Flowers” directed by John Day, and several commercial spots.

Lynda Lybeck married in 2002, and, with her husband, is raising their two sons on a small island in the Aleutians off the coast of Alaska. Their company, Robinson Crusoe Music, features a private teaching studio with 35 (\'07-\'08) students, a recording studio, and a new non-profit venture called the Hearts and Hands Project. For the fans of Discovery Channel\'s \"Deadliest Catch\", you might be familiar with the name Dutch Harbor, America\'s #1 fishing port. Here\'s a tender side of a tough, hard working community. For more information about her teaching, her music, her island home, and the Hearts and Hands Project, visit her website at www.lyndalybeck.com. All are welcome.
