Album Notes

"Music of the Light"
Songs of Praise and Thanksgiving

A contemporary praise and worship album created to simply give honor, glory and thanks to God, Music of the Light opens with, "SpiritSong", a charismatic invitation to the Spirit to cover us in all we do. Before anything else, we pray, inviting the Holy Spirit into our lives to guide us, to be a light through the darkness and to fill us with the Peace of Jesus. The music for this song originally came from the keyboard of Tracy Philips Guadagno. Tracy asked if Lynn had any uplifting lyrics to share with her music and "SpiritSong" fit the melody as if the two had been written together. Producer, Mark Godwin, contributed additional significant touches and this invitation to the Holy Spirit came to life.

"Quiet Here With You" reminds us of the time immediately following communion, being one with Jesus in the quietness of the church. It is centered on just sitting with Him, both awed and humbled by His true presence. The lyrics for this song had been given to a few musicians but to no avail. The "God Thing" happened one day as Lynn was lamenting to Mark about not being able to find music for a simple song about sitting with Jesus in church. She didn't have the lyrics with her and could only recall one line, "You and I together, Lord, before Your Father's throne". Mark picked up his guitar and played the beautiful music heard on this recording. Before the day was over, the musical accompaniment and the track had been created, including the lilting guitar solo. This entire musical arrangement was written from only nine words. It was no surprise when the all the words, without editing, fit perfectly into the track.

The other originals from Lynn Geyer and Mark Godwin have been arranged as joyful sing-a-longs. "Trinity" proclaims the blessings found in the One Triune God; "Glory Be" is a catchy anthem with a Caribbean vibe and the rhythmic "Music of the Light", with it's decidedly Latin flavor, may cause you to form a conga line even if you're alone! Other selections on "Music of the Light" come from top Christian songwriters, "Holy is His Name", John Michael Talbot's beautiful Magnificat; "We Are One Body", Pope John Paul II's favorite contemporary song by Dana Scallon and loving reassurance from Jesus found in "You Are Mine" by David Haas.

With the exception of "SpiritSong" on which the music, all guitars and keyboards and backing vocals were programmed, played or sung by the versatile Joe Hand in Nashville, all music tracks were programmed or played by Mark Godwin, noted New York producer, songwriter and classical guitarist. Mark's original guitar solos were played using either an acoustic steel string or Spanish nylon string guitar. There can only be said something wonderful about applying classical training to contemporary music. The same is true of classical concert pianist, John Stufano, who lends his tremendous keyboard skill to "You Are Mine" and "We Are One Body". Extraordinary talent, enhanced by 14 years of classical training at The Febbraio School of Music in Mount Vernon, NY.

All backing vocals were performed by the musical theatre cabaret ensemble, "A Musical Affair", Linda Calaicone, Ann Calandrucci, Susan Corcoran, Michael DeMarco, Scott Greenberg and Dean Penzabene from Westchester County, NY. Gifted singers one and all, each has a musical theatre background and met at St. Mary's Theatre Group in Mt. Vernon, NY. This album's energy and vitality are due largely to the spirited performances of these six friends.

Music is wonderful ministry regardless of its genre. But Christian music, especially praise and worship, offers a bona fide bonus besides being just good "music". While listening, you get to pray! Pop a cassette or CD into your car or headset and you can pray all the way to work or on a nice long walk! That's a pretty good deal for this busy life especially for those who don't have or make enough time for prayer.

We invite you to listen to "Music of the Light" and you'll be praying, praising and thanking God, big time, the whole time! Hallelujah and Amen!
