Album Notes

Lynn Goldsmith was born and raised in the Pisgah Forest community on the border of Transylvania and Henderson Counties in North Carolina. Lynn grew up influenced by blue grass, gospel, country, folk and rock music.Lynn’s Grandfather, and his brothers played bluegrass music in the 1930’s on WWNC radio in Asheville, NC the place where Bill Munroe got his start. Lynn was fortunate to be able to play music with her grandfather, and his brother, in their later years. Lynn’s father, and mother, were both accomplished pianist and played gospel music. Her father played a Jerry Lee Lewis style gospel. Her uncle’s also played country guitar. There were many musical influences at an early age. In her high school years Lynn listened to Linda Rhondstadt, Emmy Lou Harris, Fleetwood Mac, The Allman Brothers, the Eagles and James Taylor. All these influences can be heard in Lynn’s songs and writing style today on her Carolina Girl project. From hard driving bluegrass flavor to soft touches of folk and rock, her songs take you on a journey of mountain grandeur, to light ballads of love, and loss. Lynn plays with several different bands in the Western North Carolina region. She plays with long time friends Donna White and Cindy Parker in a band (that has yet to be named) at her church, along with father and son guitarist and bassist, Kerry and Jason Sentell, singing mostly gospel music. They have been singing together for 25 plus years. She also sings with the newly formed Rocky Flats bluegrass band (named after a song on the Carolina Girl CD) out of Henderson County. Lynn also performs solo in some venues and will be playing the first Friday of each month from 6-9 p.m., through 2009 at Wickwire Art Gallery on Main Street in Hendersonville, NC.

The CD was produced by Terry Wetton at Hogrock Mountain Music in Flat Rock, NC. Terry plays guitar, bass, piano and mandolin. Charles Wood, two time national banjo champion, plays banjo on the CD. Reese Combs plays the acoustic bass and harmony vocals. Angela Heatherly plays the penny whistle and sings harmony.

I absolutely Love this CD. It draws the listener into songs about life. The songs mainly reference the Carolina area she lives but the themes are universal. I really enjoyed taking this journey and believe that Lynn has done a great job in blending music with story telling.
