ABOUT THIS ALBUM


Album Notes
"Poi for Gadje" is a percussive journey of an eastern styled drum troop with voices of haunting and firey drums singing the textures of ancient rhythms. The vision is of tribal dancing and fire swirling around shadowy figures in the night. All hand drums are played by David Macejka and the track names are the names of the rhythms used on that track, so it's a good way to get acquainted with these traditional rhythms.

I first heard this cd at a jewelry store in Tucson, AZ called the Silver Sea. The owner of the shop ("Liz") played it at an artist gathering she holds in her shop.

At first thought I was reminded of the band Crash Worship, whos work I enjoy, so I was immediately pleased; What ever happened to those guys?. Most of "Poi for Gadje" throbs with energy and is probably best suited for dancing or convulsing and I don't do either on a regular basis. So, I usually listen to the cd when I'm working around the house but I think it's good music to paint to as well. I was most taken by the last three instrumentals on the CD as they are more ambient and rich making them more well suited as an atmospheric aid for gatherings and such. Over all I'm pleased with my purchase.

This Poi for Gadje CD is great! I could not stop dancing, doing shimmies, and shaking my hips from the minute I put it on. The music and drum sounds, just get into you...the only way to get the energy out is by feeling and dancing to these great rhythms. I LOVE IT !

I'm not even a dancer, and I love this CD. The opening track, in particular, is vibrant and energizing. It's surprising what a range of sound David has produced. I don't know much about playing music, but the sound is definitely richer and warmer than I thought an all-drumming recording could be.

I highly recommend this, even if you're not very familiar with the genre, as I'm not. I think anyone could enjoy this music.
