Album Notes

Mac Money aka Montiae McHenry has worked diligently and waited patiently for his chance to shine on his own solo project. Over the years, he has opened shows for big name acts like E-40 & the Click, Ruff Endz, Mac Dre, the Luniz, and N2Deep. He has also done his share of guest verses on various projects including Illtip Magazine's "City of Dope 2000," Mr. D.O.G.'s "Ghetto Politics," Lou Nutt's "Da Morgue," 2 Real Record's "Guilty til Proven Innocent," and BWR2000.com's "NW Ridin."
After appearing on the first single of NW Ridin titled, "Take It Off" (which received spins across the nation as well as in Africa, Canada, and Australia), he has signed with Bow Wow Records, and began constructing his debut album.

His West Coast-Reality based lyrics touch on serious matters from the view point of a struggling young Black man, with vivid descriptions in each bar to entrap you into every track. His delivery has made his upcoming debut album, Tales of a G, one of the Northwest's most anticipated indie albums, and it's scheduled to drop August 13, 2002. On it, he shows he can hold his own while collaborating with names like Mr. D.O.G., Yukmouth, and Maniac Lok.

For example, in the song, "Just Dippin," Mac details an evening of just pure energy, roaming throughout the town, meeting and greeting others in search of fun. He has been compared to W.C. with his street style delivery and it is obvious why when you listen to this bouncy tune.

In "What's Your Reality" he asks you, the listener to depict what it is that you believe and then gives you bits and pieces of his reality at the same time. On this classic, his lyrical deliverance reaches you on a spiritual level like some of the music from the late great, Tupac Shakur.

Mac Money believes that rap should be kept on a reality level and that rappers shouldn't be influencing others to follow footsteps that they themselves have not even taken. Mac was quoted as making this statement. "I think rappers should stop pretending to do 50 murders in a song and still don't have a criminal record. Rap already gets the blame for a lot of violence and negativity, and those who have not lived what they preach defeats the purpose of expressing the poverty in which you live in, in order to overcome it." He continued, "When I speak on violence in my rhymes, it's just me painting a picture of what I experienced and showing how fabulous it's not, hoping to discourage others from following suite."

When I asked Mr. D.O.G. about his acquiring of Mac Money he replied, "Mac Money was what I felt Bow Wow Records needed to advance to that next plateau in this music industry. He has a hard but almost elusive flow, which compliments my style nicely I know what he can bring to a track, energy and excitement and I can't wait to unleash him on the ears of hip-hop junkies abroad."

Bow Wow Records recently released the long anticipated debut album from Mac Money titled "Tales Of A G". Mac Money's been down with the label for a while now and after appearing on several projects including Mr. D.O.G's "Ghetto Politics", BWR2000's "NW Ridin Compilation" he's about to show the world he's more than just Mr. D.O.G's sidekick. The album opens with the thug lord himself Yukmouth kicking game on the intro. "Keeping It Real" is the albums first song and Big Squeeze laces a phat beat while Mac Meezy spits some of the albums hardest lyrics, a definite rewinder, this track is sure keep heading nodding for awhile. The albums first single "Just Dipping" is another standout track that will keep folks on the dance floor. "What's Your Reality?" features a preachy Mac Money over another sinister beat from Big Squeeze. Mr. D.O.G. pops up on "Having Thangz", the always-tight combination of Mac & D.O.G. shine on this track as Funk Daddy drops a solid beat. The recently departed EastSide Rider, Shaolin, drops a hot verse on "Way Other" while "United We Stand" features some of the albums best lyrics as Mac spits "Everybody to the front lines that claim to be G / We gon bring about some freedom and liberate the streets / If a nigga sleeping teach him and raise him on the G / Stand guard now or never / United on the streets / ". Mr. D.O.G. brings more heat to the jacking for beats style "Air & Opportunity Remix" which borrows Dr. Dre's "On The Blvd" beat; the charismatic duo trade flows perfectly on the albums final track and makes you look forward to the duo's upcoming album "Top Of The Food Chain". Overall this is a very good first album from Mac Money, though it did have a few pitfalls and songs that wont get much play (Hill St. Blues, The Meeting, Slow Down) but if also featured a lot of tracks that should stay in my rotation for a long time to come (Keeping It Real, Just Dipping, Air & Opportunity etc.) The production on the album, which was almost entirely produced by Big Squeeze, is solid throughout and has quite a few knocks to keep your head moving. Mac Money & Bow Wow Records is definitely something to check out!

Mac Money makes his mark in NW Hip Hop history
author: Africa's Gateway
Mac Money - Tales of a G I've been waiting for this shit to drop for a while now since Bow Wow is always bringing that Mob shit that you can appreciate. For those who don't know Bow Wow Records is from the North West region of America and hail from the city of Tacoma. We recently had a taste of Mac Money on the North West Ridin Compilation plus the bangin Just Dippin single which we reviewed about 2 months back. There was no doubt in my mind that Mac Money was gonna make his mark when he dropped this album. In fact I'm just waiting for the time when the Bow Wow artists blow up nationally so that I can say "I told you so" to all the playa haters. If you into this mob shit you gonna really love this album. Mac Money is a dope emcee and he comes correct on every track. He got the kind of flow that demands you to nod your head. From the beginning of the album when Yukmouth drops in to introduce Mac Money to the world you can also picture Mac Money diving into the studio and dropping that shit like a ton of bricks. The intro track Keepin It Real sets the album off lovely and basically he tells the people that he's here to stay, even predicting that he's gonna make it past Gold and go platinum. You know what? I believe him. Blocc Monstaz featuring MC is a bouncy track that you can play in your ride. I'd never heard MC before but he and Mac Money make a good duo. The next track Just Dippin is already a favourite here at the AfricasGateway headquarters. It's just the kind of track that forces people to hit the dance floor. A definate floor filler. Hill St Blues is a hot track. Shit Dubb Flex produces this very nice track and I just love those keyboards on there. This is a tight track! But, you know it looks like they put all the extra dope shit from the middle of the cd towards the end. Case in point is the hot Way Other featuring Shaolin. The production is mobbed out and that's why one of my favourite mob producers is Big Squeeze. Shaolin, who used to hang with Bullet drops a nice verse on here. Now you gonna love Tales Of A G that has a very catchy beat and Mac Money reminded me a lot of Ice Cube on here. Big Squeeze really goes all out on here as he switches the beat just at the right parts of the track. This is a top notch track. Probably the second best track on here has to be We Run The Streets featuring one my favourites Mac & AK. This is produced by Mac Pacino and I hope Bow Wow gonna press this shit on vinyl coz the deejays are gonna love this. Which brings me to the best track Air & Opportunity which is a bonus track on here. Mr D.O.G. probably kicks the nicest verse on here. The production is very different and shows the strength of the Bow Wow Camp. This track is definatley on par with the already classic Take It Off single. I'm really feeling this album however if you into the East Coast style of hip hop you might not dig this. This is straight like Bay Area mob style, so if you can appreciate artists like Yukmouth, Tech9, C-Bo and Mr D.o.G. you gonna love this shit. The only tracks I wasn't feeling was Slow Down and The Meeting. The best tracks on here are: Tales Of A G Just Dippin What's Yo Reality Hill St. Blues Way Other featuring Shaolin We Run The Streets featuring Mac & AK Air & Opportunity
