Album Notes

"The new-age-meets contemporary jazz instrumental album ranges from airy piano riffs a la Bruce Hornsby to edgier, funkier jazz. With the wealth of talent displayed on "Summer Dance," it's unlikely to be his last." --The Grand Rapids Press, Oct. 2000

A full-time musician, composer, and producer, Roger MacNaughton enjoys the creativity involved in being a musical artist. He and his wife, Megan, currently own and operate ACOUSTIC ARTS Custom Music Production LLC, a project studio that specializes in music composition for commercial purposes. MacNaughton is responsible for writing, arranging, scoring, sequencing, and performing on the variety of original musical projects for broadcast, film, and video that ACOUSTIC ARTS produces. In this capacity he is in charge of hiring the finest instrumentalists and vocalists that inhabit the West Michigan area.

As a pianist with a passion for jazz and adult contemporary music, MacNaughton has released his first CD "Summer Dance." Recorded in 2000, the disc is a collection of 13 tunes that MacNaughton describes as "...American Jazz-Pop, for lack of a better term. I like a well-turned melody and how it relates to an interesting chord structure." MacNaughton's long-time friends (and band mates) Tim Heldt (on saxophones) and well-known guitarist Mike Hyde are featured on the CD.

In February 2000, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids honored MacNaughton as a recipient of their "Local Composers Series" award. He performed his works in concert with a four-piece group to a packed house.

As a pianist, MacNaughton gigs as often as possible, sometimes as leader (The Roger MacNaughton Trio and Mixed Bag) and other times as a sideman in small ensemble jazz and pop groups. He also enjoys playing solo piano for weddings and club receptions.
