Album Notes

Jazz meets Blues meets Contemporary. This CD of all-original tunes takes full advantage of first-rate ensemble playing by the popular quartet “MacNaughton Boulevard.”

On fretless bass, Charlie Hoats is proud to have played or recorded with the likes of Marcus Roberts and Michael Brecker. Steve Anzivino adds rhythmic support with drum-set prowess and hand percussion techniques and Carlos Melendez speaks fluent “guitar” having performed around the globe with Jose Feliciano, Sonny Fortune, Herbie Mann, The Drifters, David Sanchez, Eddie Gomez, and Artie Webb. Award-winning composer, Roger MacNaughton, rounds out the group on piano.

Inspired by “Degage – a shelter providing a safe alternative to the streets,” the 12 instrumentals reflect a bluesy “urban” twist to the MacNaughton new-age, contemporary piano style.

Tasty and enjoyable piece of music.

Many jazz fans I know don’t like the blues as they say it lacks sophistication. In that case, they should listen to MacNaughton Blvd.’s “Crosstown” CD – an album which blends the best parts of blues and jazz into one very tasty and enjoyable piece of music. With band members being fabulous musicians who understand what it means to play together instead of showing off and clever arrangements that resonate in listener’s head long after you take the CD out of your player “Crosstown” is a perfect way to spend the evening. Just take a glass of wine into your hand and enjoy your musical walk cross town.

If you like Blues and Jazz - then you will absolutely love this CD!

MacNaughton hit the nail on the head with this compilation of jazzy blues - all original! Truly "feel-good" music. Usually there are one or two songs on a CD that I can live without - but I like every single song on this one, and I just smile, smile, smile when I listen to this CD.

Am I listening to jazzy blues or bluesy jazz? Who cares! This album blows me away! "Crosstown" is recording brilliance – sassy, upbeat and crazy fun. Each member of MNB contributes his own signature talent. I sure hope there are other albums from this group out there. Any in the future? I sure hope so!
