Album Notes

The Macrae Sisters are an old-time stringband out of Asheville, NC. Their first full-length album, "Old Sledge", is full of unique and thoughtfully treated renditions of traditional fiddle tunes, tight harmony singing, and rocking full band numbers.
Marian, Gabrielle and Joanna Macrae started playing and singing with their family. After playing in a number of different groups over the years, the sisters decided to form their own band about a year ago, with Marian on fiddle, Gabrielle on banjo and guitar, and all three on vocals. Marian and Gabrielle, living in Asheville, began recording this CD in 2007 with long-distance participation from Joanna in Portland, OR, and musical contributions from Jamie Herrmann on guitar and Barry Benjamin on bass. The result is this recording, made with exceptional musicianship and a true love and respect for the tradition.
