"Telling in The Spirit" is a CD filled with surprises. It was created
to touch the emotions, make you dance and, at the same time, bring you
a sense of serenity . "Telling In The Spirit" showcases Madafo's
artistry, as a Storyteller and Musician. He tells stories in the
tradition of "Griot", the African storyteller-musician, the one
responsible for keeping the history, traditions, principles and values
of the people alive and vibrant...
Several of the songs are original compositions written to honor
children and grandchildren. Madafo plays hand drums, bamboo flute,
ballaphon and mbira and uses other percussive sounds that complement
the storyline and touch the listener's spirit.
For twenty years, Madafo has been traveling around the world,
collecting stories and music and sharing his experiences in school and
library systems, at festivals and family gatherings. He has appeared on
stage and in film, and he writes and directs "A Season's Griot", a
syndicated public radio storytelling program which features African and
African American folklore and airs on Public Radio International.
The work in this CD reflects just a few of
the many facets of Madafo's universal talent. It speaks
clearly to all ages and ethnicities.
Enjoy!

I am a beginner Storyteller. Even though, I am a beginner, I can recognize good quality material. The selection of stories and music was awesome. I could feel the music and the stories made a connection to my ancestors. I felt as if I was in Africa. I could visualize the motherland through your voice. I could really feel the spirit and It felt wonderful being an Africian American. You have encouraged me thru your stories and music to continue striving and sharing the spoken word. The sounds of your voice and music had an excellent balance and meaning for young children as well as adults. Thank you for the inspiration.
