Madelyn Lavender's new CD is a conscious journey through the hypnotic and jocular--a vivid musical and lyrical landscape where you can reach out and touch the colors. Incorporating an inspired use of Folk, Rock and World instruments, Memory Tree is a provocative blend of old and new sounds woven into songs that are as simultaneously beautiful as they are thought provoking.

Lavender writes vibrant visual lyrics that are set to a variety of musical textures and tones. Her music is a fusion of rock, folk, jazz, psychedelic, pop and world. The international grooves and instrumentation give Madelyn's music an edge and diversity that is exceptional. Lavender is a strong singer who executes her poetic lyrics with passion and care. The opening track 'Travelin Alone Together' flows on a hip bongo beat as Madelyn's versatile vocals carry the listener on a magical journey. The guitar work is subtle yet worldly. 'Money, Sex and Power' clocks in at almost seven minutes weaving cunning chords with crafty beats combined with shrewd lyrics and controlled vocals. The title and closing song is a rich reflective poem accented with deep delicate instrumentation. Memory Tree grows on you as musical multi-layers cascade into expressive lively vocals.

The bright and colourful 60 -70's style psychedelic cover draws your attention immediately to the album..what mysteries and sounds are held within? Like an ancient and inquisitive Pandora I just had to venture inside and play the album! Madelyn has a very original style with the music linked to the presence of yesteryear a touch of the Lena Lovich style, a folksy Donovan and the free space riding music of flower power rising again. I found it a pleasant album to listen to and enjoy. We live in a very serious and disruptive era with a world in turmoil, yet this album is full of intensive feeling towards Colour and beauty. Track three 'It's Never Dark' has a haunting melody throughout. 'Travelin' Alone Together' 'On The Road To Inner Peace' possibly sum up the thoughts behind Madelyn's dreams and reflections on life. This album certainly stirs one to thinking about our lifestyles and living, the interlinking with other humans, the world and how we might make things better through life's journey. Here is a young artist ,a talented singer songwriter, with a spell binding album that is both mystifying and enlightening. One is drawn to the music and the evocative solo vocals. To enjoy this album you have to sit and relax and let it flow over you. After playing a few times you are hooked. For the serious people try listening to this album during those quiet reflective moments with a glass of wine! You'll love it!
