The word ‘One” can take on many meanings. It could be “One” as in first, only second to zero. It can also be the whole not just some of it’s parts. It can be “One” as in with harmony onto itself. It just seems to make sense to name Mad For Mannequin’s first collection of ten songs “One.”
Mad For Mannequins is comprised of Penelope Powers Ellis and Gabriel Katona. Penelope was born in Peoria, Illinois. She joined The Academy Of Performing Arts in the third grade and wrote her first song at the age of sixteen. Moving to California, she started jamming and writing with local San Francisco musicians. Her writing and performing catalog includes hundreds of songs and several CDs.
Gabriel Katona, born in Caracas, Venezuela is a well-known keyboard artist/composer/songwriter from Los Angeles. He inscribed his sounds on recordings by artists such as The Temptations, Rare Earth and Rick Springfield including his hit “Jessie’s Girl”. Gabe performed at major concert venues with Rare Earth, Rick Springfield, Jefferson Starship and many others.
Penelope and Gabriel met in Nashville. Gabe’s L.A. attitude was matched with the redheaded sass of Penelope and Mad For Mannequins exploded into existence. They wrote and recorded the ten-song collection CD “One” which captures their Euro-electronica-dance observations of the world. Gabe infused the music with innovative electronica interwoven with melodies and driving rhythms along with hot driving keyboard solos. Penelope’s unique and hip vocals are unleashed with Mad For Mannequins. She lyrically digs deep to find her inner dichotomy of positive inspiration with sadness. It’s not unusual to come away with messages from her words and vocals when you think you are just groovin’ to the Mannequins.
For your best experience, put on the headphones, shut out the world and listen to “One” from Mad For Mannequins.
