Mad Francis has been composing, performing, and producing his own art rock since the year 2000. His elaborate productions have been soulful, melodic, and aggressive in their intensity. These qualities are evident from his influences such as Pink Floyd, The Afghan Whigs, Beethoven and Rush. Now he is performing with just a guitar and piano, staying true to the heart of the songwriting. Upon completion of his first two records, "Recognition" and "Leaving the Way" (2001), Mad Francis assembled a band and performed along the Front Range of Colorado. In August of 2002, he appeared by himself on ABC's Good Morning Colorado in Colorado Springs. This experience helped Mad Francis realize that a greater emotional connection could be achieved with only his voice and his instrument. This realization foreshadowed the form Mad Francis would take today.

After parting ways with his band, Mad Francis immersed himself in the recording studio. In 2003 he completed but did not release his third CD, a concept record titled "Fractura." Mad Francis explains in hindsight: "I think that "Fractura" is too drastic of a stylistic shift from Recognition and Leaving the Way. I also feel that the content is too personal." Wanting to temporarily distance himself from his own material, Mad Francis produced the records of other artists. Among these is 1990's indie-rock cult icon Daniel Johnston, whose admirers include Matt Groening and the late Kurt Cobain. This CD, which Johnston performed with his partner Jack Medicine, is titled The Electric Ghosts and is scheduled for release in Fall 2005. Mad Francis does CD mastering as well. He has mastered Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo's CD to accompany the book Tenth Anniversary Edition of Road Movies, which will be released in 2005. Mad Francis also plans to master and perform on an upcoming tribute to Daniel Johnston, which will accompany a new edition of The Definitive Daniel Johnston Handbook.
