Do you like Christina Aguilera, Natalie Imbruglia, Madonna and shit like that? Well if you do, better move on 'cause you're gonna hate this CD!
The band itself, though short lived, haled from the Northwest and won a coveted spot at the FIMU Festival in France 2000. They went on to tour Belgium and Prague in the Czech Republic. Only a handful of these EXTREMELEY RARE CD's remain and they are from Jimi's personal collection.
You'll laugh, you'll cry and surely want to have a relaxing glass of wine or a cocktail early in the day. This may lead to an eventual drinking problem causing you to lose your friends, job, and family but.... WHO CARES!!!!
If you like good music and are in the mood for something different this CD will not let you down (unlike those selfish bastard's who say they care but are always "intervening" in your fun).
Women's Weekly Oct. 2000 dubbed it, "The Best CD to listen to while cleaning your house!" (Not really but wouldn't that have been awesome!)
Mad Hattie, an original, eclectic, electric, country punk, bluegrass, band, features some of Portland,
Oregon's finest musicians:
Jimi Bott (The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Rod Piazza)
Paul Brainard (Richmond Fontaine, Little Sue, The Sadies) - pedal steel, trumpet and rock guitar.
Bret Malmquest (Jesus Presley) - electric and acoustic guitar.
David Lipkind (I Can Lick Any SOB In The House) - harmonica.
Marilee Horde (Little Sue, James Lowe) - violin .
Matt Voth - standup and electric bass.
This CD was recorded, mixed and produced by the world-renowned blues drummer Jimi Bott. He is currently the backbeat in his new Portland based band JMQ which = The joe McMurrian Quartet (see www.joemcmurrian.com) His discography is impressive and he boasts credits on over 60 CD's and countless live performances with other blues greats.
Banjos, acoustic guitars and harmonies abound. More importantly, it features Jimi playing an entirely different style of drums then his fans are used too. Odd time signatures, as well as washboard, tambourine, garbage can (yes, garbage can!), percussion and mallets prevail throughout and are performed high above the center ring without a safety net, while juggling flaming batons! (Actually they weren't but the drums & percussion were recorded all at once without overdubs).
Seriously, you should check this one out...

Though it’s less up-front in the beat department, Mad Hattie has a simmering sensuality heightened by the sweet interplay of the string instruments—acoustic guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin all locked together in a vigorous blend, topped off by Dee Settlemier’s husky vocals. The ensemble musicianship is remarkable, yet it’s Settlemier who keeps everything spicy with her weary “been-there-done-that” voice. “Freeway Lady” and the title track are standouts on an album full of bluegrass/southern rock collisions, like Delaney & Bonnie meeting The Band unplugged.
Will This Record Help You Get Him/Her into the Sack?: Most likely. It has a daring, free-wheeling quality that should inspire risk-taking.
