Two months prior to the devastating March 11th earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Madi Sato recorded an album of Japanese music in a meditation temple at the Crestone Colorado Mountain Zen Center. Madi and a group of Japanese and American musicians engaged in a powerful journey of creating together in sacred space.
The album, Madi’s third, includes traditional music from her late father’s homeland of Sendai as well as her original compositions. It moves like a river through the turns and movements of Madi’s life, both in America and Japan, from childhood to motherhood and features voice, koto, shakuhachi, taiko drums, piano, bass and sounds of nature. (Produced by John Rangel.)
A portion of the proceeds from sales of Return to the River will go to the
non-profit organization, KASA: Kindness America – Sendai Alliance.
KASA aims to provide relief to smaller villages in the Sendai region and to facilitate meaningful exchanges of kindness between Japanese and Americans. www.kasacommunity.org
