Album Notes

This Los Angeles-based unit saw it's humble beginnings in the city of Baltimore, Maryland when Mark Tuminello (bass) answered an ad placed by singer/songwriter, Dan Luperini in the local city paper. The rest of the lineup was finalized soon thereafter, and would start hitting the local music scene, growing a local following while also venturing out to more regional venues, including New York's CBGB and Washington, D.C.'s The Black Cat.

While things were burgeoning locally, the band was setting their sites on broadening their fan base, and gaining more exposure, so they bid adieu to their local fans and headed west for sunny Southern California. They arrived in Los Angeles in mid-2001, and have been hitting the stages in tinsel town, including Hollywood's "The Gig", "Dragonfly" and "Coconut Teaszer", Universal City's campy "Universal Bar and Grill", and Beverly Hills "The Joint".

The band's quirky name is taken from the Indian weave-fabric, well known for the tendency of colors printed upon it to bleed into one another. It has been chosen as somewhat of an analogy for their music, which has been described as a singular brand of pop - colored subtly by such diverse influences as brit-rock, soul, jazz and punk. At times angular and irreverent; At times beautiful and eloquent, MADRAS flaunts versatility while maintaining their unique signature.

From early on, the guys from MADRAS have garnered critical acclaim, support from local and regional college radio, inclusion in nationally aired broadcasts such as MTVs "Celebrity Undercover", and are rising up the charts on the revolutionary web-based GARAGEBAND RECORDS (www.garageband.com). Keep an eye out.

Great music, poor quality

I love the music on this CD but something was funky about the duplication. The CD wouldn't play in my home theater or my car correctly. I had to rip the disc on a computer and re-burn it to a new CD for it to work correctly. Asside from that minor annoyance, it's a great pop-rock album. Fine song-writing.

These guys are great. I first heard them on garageband.com and was instantly impressed. It takes serious musicianship and creativity to impress me so that says a lot. I wish they would put out some new music.
