Madrigaïa, whose name means song of the Earth, is a group of seven women from the Canadian prairies. Each one is an accomplished vocalist and together they have swept up audiences into a storm of music from around the globe. Their combination of precise, breathtaking vocals and surging percussive rhythms truly makes them one of a kind. Madrigaïa mixes and twists their musical influences from over a dozen cultures, into a unique and heady blend of deep soul and perfect harmony. On stage, they continually strive to break new ground in order to make real their vision of movement-based, dramatically-charged musical performances. Their music also has a message: it urges audiences to dig deep into themselves to find that secret place where the roots of all culture begin.

Pleiades
author: Leif OdenSweet and sultry vocals and rhythms that seep into you and draw you out like waves you could ride down your own spinal cord. Music of magic and melodic power that taps the source the way few can. Feel it for your self. See what I mean?
chicks with sticks! these ladies will be enormous worldwide soon.
author: ForteWhen I happened to hear the tail-end of Madrigaia's show (luckily the 1st night) at Folk Alliance 2006, I made sure I caught every subsequent show they did and bought both of their CDs. This, their 2nd, is the better of the two. It perfectly captures their amazing vocal harmonies, polyrhythmic percussion (beating staves w/sticks), and amazing range -- not to mention their riveting presence and sensuality. One appearance on network American TV (like Letterman), and they'll be a household word everywhere!
Best a capella group around
author: Michael KatesThis is a great CD. What these women are doing is amazing. There are similar groups, for sure - but it's the exciting and intriguing musicality of their arrangements, plus the individual talent that each member brings to the table that set this group apart from others.
