Maeve Dunphy “Scarlet”
Hello folks,
This bunch of songs has had quite a life. A few attempts have been made to bring them to the fore over the years, but life decided to put some obstacles in the way. They took a while to clear, but at last, we have finally made it, a Maevey D album. I have chosen to think that maybe, this album was meant to be, now, and not before. (Perhaps that’s the romantic in me). I hope that you enjoy the songs.
The players:
Maeve Dunphy - Vocals, backing vocals and acoustic guitar
Jerome Mc Glynn - Electric, acoustic, and high string guitars
Micky Mc Ginty - Double bass
Aidan Dunphy (Nardo junior) - Drums
Niall “Smiler” Moore - Trumpet
Seany McCarron - Saxophones
Kathy Dunphy - Backing vocals on “Been so long”
Jacqueline “Zippy” Kelly - Backing vocals on “Been so long”
Nardo Dunphy – Harmonica
Recorded by Gareth Mc Gurgan at GMG studio, Omagh
Mixed by Billy Robinson
Photography by Colin Carroll
Design by Johnny Patterson
Some peeps I would like to thank:
Deirdre, Kathy, Aidan and Nardo Dunphy, and the rest of my family and friends, who are probably sick to death of these songs by now, but who often show up at gigs and pretend they have never heard them before, just to give me support. Nothing counts more than you guys.
To Gerry , for keeping us all fed on matzoh balls. That’s ok too.
I want to thank all the musicians who have been part of my ever-changing band over the years, especially the late saxophonist, John “Irish” Earle, (Thin Lizzy) who really tried to get me places while he was alive, and Paddy Casey, for all his support when I lived in Dublin. Good times, from what I remember.
Thanks to everyone involved in the album; Roland, Jerome, Aidan, Micky, Seany, Kathy, Zippy, Errol, Smiler, Nordy and Billy. It was a blast!
Thanks to Arty Mc Glynn, for encouraging me since I was a lump of coal, for years of mentoring in the wee wee hours, and for goading me into writing a pop song. (My response was “Party like mine”. I continue to write pop for other artists under a pseudonym. ( I am more than happy to sell out as long as I don’t have to put my real name to it.)
Last but not least, thanks to Errol Walsh, for not just wishing me well, but being prepared to act on it, and for cheering me on when I felt like throwing in the towel, on many many occasions. You’ve helped ensure that I’m still here.
Love to all, Maevey D.x
