"Maggie's Choice weighs in with one of the stronger debuts in recent memory. Strong songwriting and smart delivery are this band's forte."
- Alternative Culture Guide
"Principle songwriters Abe Cohen and Mateo Bevington pen Storytelling lyrics that are seamlessly interwoven with the music's structure and melodies. Words that could stand alone as poetry or free verse - work beautifully within this atmospheric and spacey music."
- 2 Walls Webzine
"Each band member is an expert musician in his (or her) own right. It's easy to tell that this band is having fun doing what they do best: playing around with musical craftsmanship."
- Performer Magazine
Portland Oregon based Maggie's Choice is comprised of Mateo Bevington (guitar, vocals), Sean Bevington (drums), Chris Buehler (bass, vocals), Abe Cohen (guitar, vocals) and Marian Hammond (piano, keyboard). An acoustic oriented version of the group, featuring Abe, Mateo and Sean, began in 1999 as 'Casa Del Bev'. The trio honed their sound in small local clubs, as well as in the basement of the Argentinean brothers, Sean and Mateo (hence the name). The friends quickly developed a knack for writing, performing and improvising together. This close-knit friendship and passion for creating music has served as the backbone for Maggie's Choice.
The full band was formed during the summer of 2002, after Abe and Mateo returned from stints in Boston and Austin (respectively), where they both studied music. Once reunited in Portland, the old friends ditched their acoustic guitars (well, not completely) for a more electrified sound. Chris, an accomplished guitarist and longtime friend of Sean's, switched instruments and joined the band on bass in August. Just a few months later, Marian joined the boys on keys and a new sound was born.
Since their self-titled debut album in 2003, Maggie's Choice has emerged as a promising new rock band with both substance and versatility, exploring various styles of original alt-country and progressive rock.
In January of 2005, the band released its second album, the 6-song EP tale for free. According to 2 Walls Webzine, the new album "shows the band has a thicker, more complex talent ... showcasing the vocals of Abe Cohen and the keyboards and piano skills of Marian Hammond, Maggie's Choice experiments with textured sounds."

This is straight stuff that sounds great and makes a statement. I was afraid there was no more of this around. Strange Ride, Rainy Day, and especially Anna Lee are songs that make an impact right away. Thanks.
