One night, while feeling rather miserable over a break-up with a long term romance, I drank so much whiskey that I wrote this song and would never have remembered having done so if I had not been singing it into an old reel to reel recorder !!!! I found a rather drunken rendition of the song on the tape when I awoke the next morning.....The full story is fairly long and quite humorous....I often have told it as an introduction to the song over the years.......A few years after I wrote it, Kris Kristofferson heard me sing sing it in a club in NYC, and ended up recording it three or four times.....Thank God, he liked whiskey, too....
