Six Hits of Sunshine and the Bruises to Show is a collaborative effort of six musicians under the direction of ambient/experimental composer Michael D. Peck.
The project began in 2001 as a postal collaboration, trading sounds back and forth with members James Keeler (WILT) and Aaron Jones. This process continued until 2005 when the six members converged to record live source material. The material was later manipulated, editted and tracked by Peck and the outcome are these 'Six Hits'.
What's more is that MAGGOTAPPLEWONDERLAND is a revolving member project where members are encouraged to bring their own unique talents to the table thus enabling MAW to focus on a continuing evolving sound that defys genre, but admittedly lurks in the shadows of one's own conscious.
'Six Hits' is predominately an instrumental album featuring guitar, bass, drums, percussion, found objects, synthesizers, theremin, shortwave radio transmissions and field recordings.
Fans of Mr. Bungle's Disco Volante, 1970's era porno-funk and post-modern funeral jazz will no doubt fall in love with this release.

This is perhaps the most original band I've heard in a long time.

I admit that when I first saw your album title and band name I immediately cast you off as another gloomy metal band. I couldn't have been any further from what you guys are. For fans of Jesu, Red Sparrowes and I dare say Fantomas, this is the album you've been waiting for but from a band you'll probably never hear of unless you've stumbled upon this page (which is a shame). MAGGOTAPPLEWONDERLAND cleverly fuses samples, guitar and dark atmospherics to create a sound that other bands tinker with but aren't sophisticated enough to actually commit to. Perhaps, MAW understands their audiences potential and patience as this album can be put on repeat and listened to all night long.

Echoes of a more progressive time

Six Hits of Sunshine and the Bruises to Show is a wonderful maelstrom of sounds and compositions. A nice mix of traditional instrumentation and electronic sounds, this disc has a definitive early-1070s progressive rock vibe, with hints of Soft Machine, early Pink Floyd and Hawkwind in the mix. HIghly recommended!

Here's an album that lives up to its title. Managing to be both sharply beautiful and darkly sinister, this collage of ambient, experimental metal is challenging in all the right ways. The incorporation of electronic sounds into a surreal semi-metal environment is nothing new, but these guys take it a step further, slipping in theremin vibes and strange programming and sampling elements that peel the skin back even further. Considering that there are six musicians involved in the playing, it's slightly surprising to hear a resulting sound that ethereal but complete, full but not too busy. You could call this ambient noise, but I'm not sure if that's giving it enough credit. This is an album you can listen to with headphones on and catch a ton of subtleties that you may have missed through your standard sound system. Fans of Mr. Bungle, John Zorn, and abstract experimental music will have no trouble diving headfirst into this one.
