notes
After a long hiatus between studio releases, Brent Magstadt of Vashon Island, Washington, has finally released his first solo effort. Consisting of pieces that encompass vivid acoustic seances and romping full band grooves (while quietly dashing into the experimental world) this release showcases Magstadt's ability not only to compose for small ensemble, but to seamlessly integrate numerous genres into one listening experience, effectively showcasing his talent as a singer/songwriter and musical visionary.
Magstadt grew in Missoula, MT. He has a performance degree in jazz, and a minor in music composition from the University of Montana; this is where the Classics took hold of him. "I remember one birthday my girlfriend had tickets to a string trio performance. We did dinner, and then hit the theater for this show. I was in front, the intensity was amazing. They were playing Beethoven's Sting Trio in G minor. It was one of those epiphany moments where the tears suddenly well up, it's that powerful."
Following that experience, composition is where he's been ever since, scribing jingles, filming and scoring a short, even writing over 40 pieces in 3 days for a software sales CD-Rom, all while performing out, traveling, and working.
"Brent Magstadt may be the most significant and innovative artist that you have never heard." Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck (www.muzikman.org)
"In the captivating Samba De Los Rockos he synthesizes grand and picante Latin melodies and rhythms that draw an irresistibly sensuous samba line straight South across the border. Passionate diversity; at once rhythmic and joyful -- describes Brent Magstadt's latest musical iteration. Play it often. Play it loud." Susan McCabe, President, Voice of Vashon Radio (www.voiceofvashon.org)

Amazing talent shared on this cd!
author: KotaPressThis cd rocks! Totally amazing. Remember doing things like following around the Dead or Neil Young during summer tours? I swear when I listen to this, I feel like a summer night on a hill somewhere just trippin' out to Neil. Plus mixed with Pacific NW island life somehow, too, though. There's one track with rain -- then the next track with the diggeridoos. The digggs sound like fog horns after a hard rain. It's the musical sound of life on Puget Sound in the more magical vortex areas! I love it!
Awesome Grooving Funk/Jazz/Rock CD with Surprises!
author: Jeffery Wehr (Wehrd Music Company)Brent Magstadt has created a very eclectic sound on this CD. His background in music melds his classical compositional skills with his love for jazz, funk, and rock. The rock influence, mainly a crunching 4/4 beat, underlies most of the tracks on this CD. Most songs gravitate toward a “latino-Santana-istic” groove such as on Percolator, Hairball, Samba De Los Rockos, and Ami Grooves, however Brent’s own guitar solo work borderlines faster, Satriani-type melodies. Anyone that knows Brent also knows his humorous side as revealed in the prelude L’Inizio and the postlude L’Estremita…both being unique instrumentation as well as using Italian words to open and close his fabulous work in between (Dr. Johnston would be proud). I could go on, but they want us to keep this short, so…great CD Brent Magstadt, and keep creating!
