Album Notes

Natalia Zagyva, born and raised in Hungary, spent several years in New York and Boston, where she performed and toured with the Eletfa Hungarian Folk Band. This CD was recorded just weeks before Natalia moved back to Hungary. Her voice has been described as "riveting," "smooth as silk," and "undeniably gorgeous." Most of the instrumental accompaniment was performed by Kalman Magyar ("Ocsi"), some tracks are re-releases from the Gyokereink album of the Eletfa Hungarian Folk Band.

Exhilarating and masterful work -- a must have
author: Dara Tierney
For those of us who wish to learn the beautiful Hungarian language, this work showcases the inherent music in the words (and includes lyrics in Hungarian--- köszönöm!). A CD rife with rich music, lively songs, soulful ballads, and Natalia Zagyva's exquisite voice (especially gorgeous a capella in tracks 3 and 7). Kálmán Magyar's vibrant, unbridled violin lends passion, sensitivity, and foot-tapping fun to the work. If you can fight the irresistible pull to jump up and dance to track 6, check your pulse: you may be dead.

Eloquent example of musical brilliance
author: L. Skinner
This CD is what results when you take a musical language and set it to music: sheer poetry. Natalia Zagyva's heavenly voice and Kálmán Magyar's gifted, electrifying violin bring to life the beauty of Hungarian folk music. This is musical chemistry at its best, and you don't even need to understand the words to appreciate the richness of this work. The jacket notes say this is "unpolished" work, and perhaps this is exactly why it is so valuable, why it has an intimate, personal, immediate quality that makes you feel you are there with the artists. Listen for Zagyva's enchanting sounds as they weave in and out of Magyar's vigorous, zestful notes. A rare pleasure, this CD should be in the collection of any lover of the cultural legacy of Hungary and its people.
