Album Notes

"A pensive, evocative, resonant meditation on distance and absence. Macdonald gets umpteen opportunities to lapse into cliche and misses every one." - Lucid Culture

All songs by Maia Macdonald. Produced by Maia Macdonald and Graham Galatro. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Graham Galatro.

Drummer, guitarist, and singer Maia Macdonald began her musical journey at age 7 during Carnaval season in Barranquilla, Colombia. Soon after, she taught herself to play the guitar using a Spanish classical guitar forgotten in the attic, while simultaneously listening to Brazilian music on repeat - through David Byrne’s “Beliza Tropical” compilation.

Maia wrote her first songs in elementary school, but didn’t begin her performance career until age 16, when she regularly played at local cafes and open mic nights in Northern New Jersey. At Wellesley College, she performed regularly for enthusiastic and devoted audiences. She fell deeply in love with the music of Haiti and traveled to Port-Au-Prince to study folkloric drumming then came back to play lead drum with the Yanvalou Haitian drum and dance troupe.

After graduation from college, Maia returned to Brooklyn New York, recovered from a devastating tendon injury, entered the music scene with full force, developng a loyal following through her gigs at Union Hall, Pete's Candy Store, and The Sidewalk Café.
