notes

Havilah, Heather, Abigail & Tabitha Justice grew up performing and playing strings with their siblings since early childhood. They first learned the joy of producing music at the age of 6, as a part of their mother's vision of a well-rounded home-schooling education. Caring for the family livestock by day and entertaining on stage by night reflects the history of their rural lifestyle and family of eleven.

In 2003 Havilah & Heather brought the sisters band into existence with Maidens II. The dynamic duo began performing Renaissance, Celtic & Folk music intricately weaving song with theatrical drama. .
As younger sisters became accomplished in their instruments the Band began to grow, developing into Maidens III

Now as Maidens IV this energetic band of sisters’ present acoustic Celtic & Folk Music at it’s finest! Their fiddling strings, soaring voices and dynamic percussion create an intense Maiden’s sound.

Maidens IV features the soaring and melodic tones of Havilah’s leading Violin. Close on her heels, Abigail’s vibrant Viola adds a depth and rich harmony to the group. Heather, the engaging lead vocalist brings her sparkling sound and dynamic Bodhran to the quartet. Tabitha, the youngest sister of the group, fills out the sound adding her rhythm with Guitar and percussion.
The Maiden’s four part harmony soars with the close tones of these sister’s voices and captivates with the sounds of their rollicking strings and engaging rhythm!

These sisters arrange all their own music as well as compose original works to create
the unique Maidens sound.

Havilah
Since the age of nine, Havilah has been managing her herd of milk goats and playing her violin. In the process, she has become an accomplished cheese and soap maker. Favorite pastimes for Havilah include spinning and knitting the wool from her Jacob’s sheep; as well as producing gourmet cheese and specialty soap from goat’s milk. In addition to performing with Maidens IV, Havilah teaches violin to nearby home-schooled children.

Heather
At the age of fifteen, Heather began pursuing the study of vocal performance under the careful and encouraging tutelage of Kay Raplenovich. Heather is a song writer and personally arranges most of the music performed by Maidens IV. She is an active performer who enjoys singing a wide variety of styles. In addition to teaching voice, Heather is Founder and Director of two children’s choirs, the King’s Choristers.

Abigail
Abigail is currently studying voice & viola. She is a member of the Mansfield Youth Symphony Orchestra, of central Ohio. Abigail’s natural affection for children keeps her in constant demand as a baby-sitter for friends and family. In her spare time she enjoys horse back riding with her sisters and friends.

As sisters, we feel that the gift of music is an enchanting
and awe inspiring expression of a unique aspect of God’s
character. It is a gift placed within each of us.
Throughout our performances we want our audience to both
enjoy themselves and realize that musical enjoyment itself is an experience that reflects the beauty and wonder of the God of all creation.

  • For Folk Music Lovers, New and Old Style!

I found this album has incredible range and variety. You will find everything from spirited Irish dances, English & Irish folk music, to some fabulous new folk music form a good friend of mine Seymour Barab – “I’ll never go to Macy’s” with an Irish twist. These four sisters may be from the American heartland (Ohio) but, they have the spirit of the United Kingdom in the music and in turn their soul. Well done ladies! I look forward to the next album and your expanding music range…till then bravo!

  • Thoroughly Delightful

I like to hear the Scottish drum in music, I really enjoyed this cd. This is very professional sounding and I would not have known the ladies were from Ohio, must be the Scottish part of the state. A delight for the ears.

  • The enjoyment is infectious. Well done!

The first song, Irishman's Heart to the Ladies is a lively and fun beginning, followed by memorable tunes I have found myself humming later on. I especially liked Star of the County Down and I Attempt from Love's Sickness. Heather's vocal ability really shines! Swallow Tail jig and The Basso are upbeat and fun, highlighting the instrumental talents of all three, then I like the way the mood changes with Snowbird. Pretty Girl Milking her Cow is another of my favorites; all three voices blend beautifully. Your Irish Brogue is evidence of the practice and hard work that must have gone into this project. The enjoyment is infectious. Well done!

Our family was delighted over the sounds of the blissful and refreshing folk music from days gone by. The lively sounds of voices harmonizing together, were seemly fitting for this style of impressive and distinctive quality. Great Job!!! Enjoyable to listen to.
