In 1985 Main Gazane, featuring Mark Minchello on keyboards and Bob Magnuson on sax signed a record contract with John Hammond Records. This was the same John Hammond who had previously signed Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Bruce Springsteen. CBS had given Mr Hammond his own label after four decades of success
as a producer and A& R man. Main Gazane was signed after Mr Hammond viewed the group on a TV show. They made the record and it was ready for release.
However all did not go as planned. The market was changing and the only Contemporary Jazz radio station in New York changed to Country music overnight with no warning. The record never came out and the label folded and Main Gazane eventually dissolved.
Bob and Mark continued to play together throughout the years. Mark went on to play with Luther Vandross and Regine Belle(where he was musical director for 10 years) and Bob became a staple on the New York studio scene. When they found themselves living a few miles apart it was only natural that they start right up again. There newest collaboration has recently culminated with their signing with Apria Records. There newest CD Hip Space will be released in Jan.2006.

Unique and captivating!
author: Dorothy Sabarese
When you listen to Main Gazane play, you will hear a unique style that is integrated with pop sensibilities and a smooth jazz sound. Very different sounds in a smooth jazz genre that is captivating. Catch them playing live for a great show, too.
