Album Notes

The Majestics Rhythm Revue- one very cool band. This six-piece ensemble tours all over the Midwest, developing an ever-increasing fan base. The group is made especially memorable by the terrific horn playing and our captivating lead singer. Our high energy live shows are all about a party and making sure everyone has a blast.
Based in Lawrence, Kansas, we pretty much tour the region of Minneapolis to Dallas, Aspen to Chicago. Our show is 80% originals and totally obscure covers, but we always enjoy throwing in a blues standard for fun.
Our influences run the gamut of the American music tradition, from jazz to rock n' roll. We like to combine all these elements to make things unique. That's how our CD ended up with a ska version of a Charlie Parker song and a Western swing version of a Thelonious Monk tune! But our singer's vocals are the main thing here- wonderfully recorded and produced with sultriness and breathiness everywhere.
Look for us- we are (went) going national in 2000. We'll be in your town soon!

New York ain't got nothing on Lawrence!
author: Reuben Vlodov
After spending 20 years in New York covering the music scene for Downtown Magazine, I had a very pleasant surprise on coming to Lawrence to attend KU's film school. The music scene here is as vibrant and fresh as any place I've ever been--New York included. This CD shows just how traditional musical genres can be reinvigorated when approached with verve, talent and creativity.
