Album Notes

MALT was created as an outlet to give four L.A. musicians the freedom to create the music they wanted to play, the way they wanted to play it. To document 20 years of musical performance, playing together in great venues and not so great venues, MALT felt it was important to put down a permanent musical mark that would reflect the respect and passion of the art we call Jazz.

Matt Harris brings a harmonic depth and superior craft that colors and shades the band's musical concept. Armando Compean's genuine soulfullness represents his Texas blues roots and his love of rhythmic and harmonic interplay. Lee Spath drives the group with percussive grace and dynamic intensity. Tom Peterson's lyricism and ability to weave masterful phrases adds that all-important musical edge. The superbly recorded sound was achieved by the large musical ears and engineering expertise of Alan Mirikitani. The material consists of 8 original Jazz compositions and 3 by other composers.

MALT's music is dynamic and accessible, lifting spirits as they play music from the heart. Listen to MALT and experience its blend of jazz, with a hint of blues, which captures the artistic chemistry of four friends that will stand the test of time.

REVIEW:

"MALT is a swinging, straight-ahead jazz recording featuring four noted and accomplished proponents of the genre who, by virtue of their creativity and playing talent, have given fans a real musical gem in this CD."

Bob Agnew - L.A.Jazz Scene
