------------

Modern music from West Africa has been infiltrating the music scene for quite some time now. One of its pioneers is Mamadou Diop, who is considered one of the greatest rhythm guitarists from Senegal. His approach to music has always been unique and exploratory. Take a listen now by choosing a song from the selection on the left...

Mamadou spent decades capturing the rhythms of the West African drum (sabar, djembe, djun djun, etc.) and arranging them on the guitar. That earned him the title of legend among his peers. He enjoyed a career performing with top artists including Thione Seck, Baaba Maal, Jimi Mbaye, and many others. For more information, read his biography at www.mamadou.com, and check out the photo gallery of "Modou Diop".

While on tour almost a decade ago, Mamadou Diop immigrated to the United States, looking for an opportunity to start a new life. In New England, Mamadou started a music band featuring African, American, and European musicians, blending their styles with his to create the group simply called MAMADOU! What a mix!!

He and his band are now bringing their creations to you!

Says Mamadou Diop... "It is my wish for this music to be in direct contact with the soul of the audience, to lift up their spirits and to bring a sense of freedom to their minds."

Having made a name for himself in Africa, Canada and Europe, Mamadou blesses the American airwaves with his fresh, alive and vibrant, Senegal-bred Afropop. Akin to his compatriot, Youssou N'dour, Mamadou infuses an intense energy and sparkle into his music to match his spellbinding vocals. A name to add to your list of world beat artists.
