Mambo Negro is a seven member band composed of vibes, bass,
guitar, keyboard, congas, timbales and drums. The music can
best be described as a blend of jazz, afro-latin, brazilian,
funk and other styles. This eclectic blend helps to create
a melodic, acoustical sound which has been characterized as
a mixture of classic and modern elements that run hot and cool.
Current members include George Rodriguez, founding member of
the legendary New Swing Sextet and Joe Mannozzi who has performed with Tipica 73 and Libre among many others. Past
members include the late bass maestro Victor Venegas and in
addition Mambo Negro has been privileged to have
Dave Valentin and Harvie S as guest artists.
Mambo Negro has performed at the Panasonic Jazz Festival and Flushing Town Hall among other venues and their music
can be heard on the soundtrack of the film "Tumba &
Tumbao" which premiered at the HBO International Film Fest
in July of 2006. In June of 2007 the band had the honor of participating in the first Make Music New York Festival.
Mambo Negro performed recently at the 2008 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week presentation of designer Nicole Romano in New York City.
"Midnight Mosaic" features the band's versions of classic and standard songs as well as original material. The
band's first CD "First Impressions" is also available through CDBaby. To book Mambo Negro contact Glen J. Lowe
