Album Notes

Mandee writes soothing piano tunes that are the perfect backdrop for her naturally lovely voice. On her self-produced debut, "Seasonings", she sings of the cycles of love and friendship, peppered with her introspective and sometimes wry lyrics. Stark arrangements blend her pastoral poetry and bittersweet melodies that recall the styles of George Winston, Tori Amos and Carole King, but take the listener on Mandee's own journey through the seasons of the year. Although self-labeled as "Home Grown Piano Pop", Seasonings explores genres from gentle ballads to ragtime fluff; from slow, jazzy grooves to folky singer/songwriter; from a rousing harpsichord instrumental to a waltz.. and all with Mandee's own unique stamp.

From Mandee's website:

I have been playing piano and singing since before I was even old enough to reach the keys. I grew up in a very musical home; my grandmother is a professional organist and my mother played in a gospel band, The Glorybound Singers, throughout my childhood. Musical theatre was my pastime of choice in school, playing roles as diverse as Annie, The Witch in "Into the Woods" and originating the role of Vita Sackville West in "Aphra, Where Have You Behn?" Lately, I've been on the other side of the curtain, composing original music for plays such as "Peter Pan" and "Twelfth Night".

After graduating from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a B.A. in Art History, I moved to West Virginia and began seriously songwriting. Now I'm back in my homestate of Maryland, and happy to be given the opportunity to dedicate my life to the craft of the singer/songwriter.

Gorgeous from all angles...

Beautiful instrumentals coupled with a sincere and passionate voice. Comparible to Carole King and Tori Amos on a basic level, but with a very distinctive and unique flavor that is Mandee's own. Overall: An absolutely wonderful CD from a very gifted individual. Well done. :)

Gorgeous melodies to soothe you

I'd heard Mandee's covers of her favorite artists, like Tori Amos and They Might Be Giants, so I naturally checked out her originals, and was surprised to find that I liked them even better than her wonderful covers! Mandee is a truly talented pianist with a gift for composing. While her vocals are equally calming (never does she strain for a note), her adeptness with a piano floored me. "One in a Million" is my personal favorite; as soon as I heard it I had an image and a story in my head to accompany the rich harpischord--something that rarely happens when I listen to instrumental music. Also, her lyrics aren't stale or cliched; they're kept short but poetic and beautiful. Overall, I was greatly impressed with her musical abilities. I also admire the simplicity with which she records and mixes. Nothing is overproduced; there are no instruments that sound as if they don't belong. No song feels as though she's making it into something it's not. Apparently, Mandee as the same keen ear for producing that she has for scoring. This is a great start from a great artist. "Seasonings" will certainly leave you anxious to hear how Mandee continues to grow as a lyricist, vocalist, and musician.
