Howdy hey.... well you know, I've been hopping around from band to band for 39 years, and realized if I was going to make it in the "Biz" I should get serious about writing lyrics. So, 20 years ago I picked up the pen and dug in! Love it you know... the creative process.... To think when you write an original song, there is no other just like it. Now, ... you can amuse "yourself" for hours and days and years! But... to write songs that a lot of people can connect to, is quite a different thing! It's been gratifying to get to get so much positive feedback on this album. People really go out of their way to tell me how much they like it! Each person anxious to tell me his or her favorite.
The theme of "At the Beach" or "Tiki Bar" setting spells, relax and let sweet ocean breezes carry your troubles away. Who doesn't want to roll with that!? Or how do you feel with the top down on your convertable... cruisin on the boulevard? You know every passerby wishes they were you! (or: everybody looks and wonders who you are).
The album "Sea Side City Girl" was inspired by the folks in South Carolina and their love for east coast Beach Music, and "Shagg Dancing". It's kind of like the state flower or something. It all originated on the "Grand Strand", which is the Atlantic Coastline of South Carlolina, including "Myrtle Beach". But these days the popularity of Beach Music and Shagg Dancing stretches clear down into Florida and west to Atlanta, GA. In 2002, I was part of a group who played Beach Music, Oldies and Classic Rock all over South Carolina. And so sprung the inspiration and the theme for the "Mango Jo" album.
My musical influences in my writing are; The Beattles, Jimmy Buffett, Elvis Presley, Sinatra, Lyle Luvett....you may hear others..?! A touch of real life and nirvana, but on the light side! Happy... I think music should make you.... happy. Hell.... just look at the cover... Don't you want to be there?! So ya.. have a slice of Mango Jo... with your "Sea Side City Girl"... or.... a "Rum or Tequila" tottie. ENJOY!
The sun rises over the Grand Strand
ahh... my cooler in the sand
Seagulls laugh and cry... calling
soaring on sweet ocean breezes.
Whispers the melody........... -Mango Jo
