notes

Being a 'recording artist' is a weird thing. Internally, there is this deeply felt need to express one's self through the art form of recording. Externally, there is this somewhat brazen and self-centered assumption that others would actually want to hear what one composes.

In a very real way, "If Life Were A Book" is a continuation of some of the thoughts and prayers expressed in the previous project, "A Bridge Called Surrender." In the three years between projects, God brought us on quite a journey- physically, emotionally, and most of all, spiritually. There have been trials and turmoil, successes and stirrings, wonderings and wanderings-but through it all, the Hand of God has never left us.

I would describe this project as being moody and complex, with thoughtful chord changes and some lyrical substance. Musically, it is piano-driven, jazz-influenced, and heart-felt. Thematically, I liken life to a book, whose chapters are being written day by day.

As I state in the liner notes, "They say that every person has a story. I believe every person is a story. And in these last few years, I have become more aware of the Writer of my story, the Author of Days."

About me: I've been a musician in the Sacramento, California, area for over 20 years, with about 50 album credits and literally hundreds of concerts and appearances locally. I've been the worship pastor for a church in Folsom for over 15 years. Visit my website at www.manuelluz.com for more information.
