The "Mother Of The Blues" began recording in 1923, after 20 years of live performances, becoming a blues legend and a key figure in the history of black music. She recorded over 100 songs in the space of six years and died in 1939; collaborated occasionally with names such as Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Kid Ory, Fletcher Henderson. Part of her legend is that apparently she gave some vocal lessons to another legendary voice: Bessie Smith.
