Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience the double jazz/fusion CD from Ajamu Akinyele is musically stunning, captivating, and was predicted to be one of the "Best New Independent Jazz Album's of 2006" from music critics. You've heard his music on major and independent radio stations around the world. You've seen him on the morning television show "Sacramento & Co." broadcast on ABC. And, his music was featured on the hit television show "Girlfriends," which airs on the CW Network in the Bay Area, but who is the man behind the music?

Producer/bassist Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele, pronounced Ah-jah-moo + Ah-kin-yay-lay, recorded as MARCEL from 1998 to 2004. He's had independent success with several releases in the San Francisco Bay Area, Europe, and Japan. As MARCEL, he released five CD's ranging from Funk to World, but as Ajamu Akinyele, embarked on his first cyber jazz CD Supernova, (2005).

He changed his name on his 32nd birthday, June 21, 2004 from Andre Marcel Wilson to Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele to reflect a more African heritage. Ajamu released his last CD as MARCEL titled, Secret Weapon Volumes 1 & 2, (2004). He struggled in his career as MARCEL trying to find his true musical style. Now he has created his own unique identity producing what he calls "Cyber Jazz - Funk Fusion," trying to redefine jazz for a new generation.

Recording as MARCEL, he arrived on the scene in 1998 with his debut CD The Diary of Marcel. His follow up release Spice : The Alternative Hip-Hop Experience (2001), helped him to establish a loyal independent following in Japan and Europe. With the release of his third and fourth CD's Uptown : 2025 A.D. (2003), and Uptown : 2025 E.P. The Remixes (2004), he developed a true sense of artistry and a vision of being dedicated to his musicianship. These releases gained him radio airplay on the "Upper Room with Joe Kelley," a radio station in Connecticut that was featured on Pop Icon PRINCE website, and also gained him attention on MTV Germany. Uptown : 2025 A.D. was a self-awakening, and now he is aware of who he is, and where he's going! On Secret Weapon Volumes 1 & 2, his fifth and final release recording as MARCEL, he displays funk in a way that makes you think of bands like Parliament/Funkadelic. Secret Weapon Volumes 1 & 2 also gained him distribution, radio airplay, and exposure in Australia.

Supernova, (2005) is filled with elements of futuristic sounds combining funk and fusion, while maintaining a sense of an R&B feel. This CD is a reflection of his personal and musical growth as a recording artist. So, Supernova was not only a new beginning or a rebirth, but also a new direction in sound to take him to the next level in his journey, Cyber-Jazz!

Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience, (2006) captures the true essence of cyber-jazz, which is a blend of smooth jazz - funk fusion influenced by the smooth sounds of Sade, the laid back grooves of MeShell Ndegeocello, the funkiness of Prince, and the fusion of Miles Davis.

Ajamu Akinyele is a well-rounded musician whose mission in life is to be true and honest, and to produce great music for people who truly love music. Along the way he hopes to inspire younger generations to show an appreciation for jazz. Experience Cyber Jazz!

  • Great Work!
    author: Harry Melchior

Really great work! Everytime I'm looking for quality new material in the smooth jazz...scene, it's a pleasure to support names outside the "big label" business. ~ Harry (SmoothVibes.com)

  • Very Impressed!
    author: D.J. Enormix

While researching music and video on the Internet for my Internet radio program and music television show, I came across the music of Ajamu Akinyele; I must admit that I had not been exposed to his music. After hearing a few tracks from "Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience," I was very impressed. I would like to feature Ajamu Akinyele's music on The Digital Coffee Cafe and The Spot. ~ Eric P. Northern/D.J. Enormix (The Digital Coffee Cafe - www.IM4Radio.com)

  • An all round awe inspiring performance. Youve done it again Gemini Soul.
author: Lord Andrew J Pipeworthy esquire

This is a most wonderful CD from beginning to end. I am captivated by the ambience of Pandora's Boxx and cannot control myself when listening to the subtle love present in Barbarella. I find the Fire Dance track visiting as a soundtrack in my dreams where i am stuck in a corridor and i cannot find the door out. Basically this album is the most awesome musical experience i have ever been involved in. Thankyou Gemini Soul and Ajamu Akinyele especially. Your music will continue to inspire me in the coming months and i hope you continue with your unique style of jazz in another installment of your music soon. You have got something quite amazing here. Yours in friendship, Lord Andrew J Pipeworthy.

  • Pure Artistic Creativity!
    author: JazzReview.com

Well I don’t know much about the cyber jazz experience, but I do know good jazz when I hear it! Ajamu Akinyele...and his partner in crime, keyboardist Jon O’Bergh, do a marvelous job of enveloping one in some incredibly innovative creations...From the opening track, “Pandora’s Boxx,” which really only sets the stage for more intense (and, in some instances, soothingly mellow) pieces to follow, this CD demands your attention. There are simply too many good pieces to single out each one (although “Black Magic,” Crystal Ball,” “Spellbound,” “Gemini Blues” and the ever-spellbinding Sade classic “Sweetest Taboo” come to mind right off the bat). The CD has everything: keyboards and bass that go from the silky, smooth and enticing to the nasty, funky, I-mean-it cuts like “Gemini Blues”...Oh yeah, this is definitely a CD to quench your aural thirsts...Ah, the immense satisfaction of hearing fresh material such as this makes listening to music all the experience it is intended to be. Get this one! ~ Ronald Jackson; JazzReview.com

  • Creative & Entrancing!
    author: Joe Knipes

The music on "Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience" is an entrancing combination...Some of the songs, like the title cut, recall the R&B of Anita Baker & Sade, when they ruled the radio and influenced this brand of Instrumental Pop. Ajamu Akinyele offers the vocals on a few cuts including, "The Look of Love," where his soft voice brings to mind recent singers like Maxwell. The arrangements and song structures bear the mark of one possessed with creativity and curiosity. ~ Joe Knipes, Jazz Improv Magazine

  • Ajamu gets down for the funk of it!
    author: San Diego City Beat

Ajamu Akinyele on bass plus Jon O'Bergh on keyboards equals the jazz-fusion band Gemini Soul. Ajamu Akinyele gets funky with the bass, producing what he describes as "cyber jazz-funk fusion." His jazz fusion is so funky, in fact, music critics have said that he's what you get when Miles Davis meets Prince. Ajamu Akinyele w/ Gemini Soul gets down just for the funk of it! ~ San Diego City Beat

  • Love It!
author: KNOZ 96.5 FM - Sacramento

We enjoyed every second of your on-air performance with us at KNOZ 96.5 FM here in Sacramento, CA. All of our friends love the cd, and I love it too! ~ DJ Flo Real

  • Great Performances!
author: WLTV Comcast Cable Channel 26

You have a great passion and love for your music, and you portray that in your performances. Thank you for performing "Barbarella" and "In Love With You" Live on our T.V. show!

  • Smooth Jazz & Pulling It Off!
    author: KUSF 90.3 FM

Smooth jazz claiming MeShell Ndegeocello and Prince as influences, and performing songs by Burt Bacharach and Sade. The music sounds a lot better than my mental picture of what that recipe makes, they're at least pulling it off!

  • Cyber Jazz At It's Best!
author: Guy (Crepes A La Carte)

You guys are the best thing that has happened to The Cannery - Del Monte Square Fisherman's Wharf in a long time. My favorite songs are "Spellbound" and "Barbarella," which is on a continuous loop on my CD player.

  • Outstanding!

  • Ajamu Akinyele is taking jazz to the next level!
    author: Yunece 61 - Venue

Ajamu Akinyele's music is cutting edge and not your traditional or typical jazz sound. Ajamu Akinyele is creating a new genre of jazz taking it to the next level, and I'm so glad I'm witnessing the birth of something creative, original, and new!

  • Beautiful!
    author: Ling Zou

I really enjoyed your music, it's beautiful!

  • Invigorating and Refreshing!
    author: Keisha Pierce

I've been playing your music at work like there's no tomorrow...and my colleagues love it, Whoo Hoo! But I wanted to say, "Thank you" for the wonderful Cyber Jazz experience you have placed upon me. I found it to be invigorating and refreshing. I feel that Cyber Jazz is music for the entire family to enjoy and I wish you well on your journey to come. Thank you, God Bless, and I'll be buying more CD's like very soon, for some of my family members.

  • Music for the soul!
    author: Cecelia Kelley

I'm really enjoying the CD, and my favorite song at the moment is "Cyrstal Ball."

  • Good, funky music that'll make your day!
    author: Jon Sugar

Good, funky music that'll make your day, pick up on this, Ajamu Akinyele is a two-man Prince/Me'shell Ndegeocello whose new CD Black Magic: The Cyberjazz Experience is getting airplay on Smooth Jazz KKSF 103.7 FM and Jazz KCSM 91.1 FM. Producer, bassist, keyboardist, label owner and one-half of Gemini Soul, Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele's new double-CD is a fantastic buy if you like light, upbeat funk. Jon O'Bergh, featured on several tracks, plays piano with a combination of sequenced effects and programmable grooves. They make music for all generations and ethnic backgrounds; it's one nation under a groove with cyber-jazz. They're tight and a lot of fun live!
