"Argentinean born pianist Marcela Fiorillo once again demonstrated the impressive technical accomplishments and fine expressive qualities of her playing in this recital of Spanish piano music.
The program opened quietly with two transcriptions for keyboard of anonymous 15th-century lyrics, followed by graceful Sonatas by 17th-century composers José Gallés and Antonio Soler Ramos, these little pieces given suitably light and crisp performances.
Then the program moved to the 19th century, and this brought the expressive passion of the recital's title.
The first notable composer of the later 19th century on show was Isaac Albeniz.
With the recital at full impetus, a brilliant realization of two pieces by Enrique Granados led to an impressively virtuosic performance.
Then it was the final bracket of pieces by Manuel de Falla, the first of these, the Serenata Andaluza, bringing more relaxed mood. But the sparkle soon returned with the Spanish colour and rhythms of dances brilliantly arranged for piano solo by the composer from his ballet scores The Three-Cornered Hat and Love the Magician, these rising to a climax with the driving rhythm of the Ritual Fire Dance, which brought this continually entertaining and musically rewarding recital to an exciting conclusion."
