Album Notes

Based in Boston/Cambridge, Massachussetts, but New Jersey-born and raised, Marc Herman is a songcrafter. Touching on folk, country, rock, jazz, blues, pop within his NEON CD, Herman explores the wide breadth of Americana music. His lyrics deliver according to the demands of each song: whether simple fun, or detailed storytelling, such as the song "Blow By Blow" which revisits the John Henry legend from his work-partner's perspective: "Long pull from a jug-o-shine Make it last 'til suppertime Powder blasts ring in my head Clear the smoke and count the dead" Backed by a crack band of musicians on NEON, Herman's songs are tastefully decorated with Hammond organ, piano, mandolin, dobro, lap steel, accordion, harmonica, etc., making for an "engaging, entertaining listen," writes Doug Sloan of Metronome magazine. Danielle Dreilinger of Northeast Performer magazine describes NEON as "clever, assured and heartfelt." 2004 Kerrville New Folk finalist.
