Album Notes

Charlie Lennon, legendary Irish fiddler and composer said it best: "A good session can leave you walking on air, send you home happy and keep your mind filled with music for a whole week."

"The Celtic Ray" has the feel and variety of a good Celtic session: joyous jigs, hornpipes and reels contrast heart-rending instrumental versions of time-honored ballads. Marcille Wallis (dulcimer) and fellow musicians Anthony Delle Donne (guitar) and Trina Schyhol (pennywhistle) produce a tight sound that nevertheless seems spontaneous -- almost as if the you, the listener, are in on the fun! Listen to this CD and find yourself, like Charlie Lennon himself, "walking on air ... happy ... your mind filled with music."

"Can there be a better combination of hammered dulcimer and Celtic music? Not in my mind when it is well executed. The material consists of mostly well known tunes and this presentation demonstrates why they have stood the test of time." Don Jacobson, KVMR-FM

Marcille’s playing on the dulcimer is passionate and thoughtful, and fits extremely well with Anthony Delle Donne’s driving yet sensitive guitar style. Trina Schyhol adds another fine Celtic dimension with technically clean playing on the whistle. My favorite tune is “Roslin Castle”. This piece demonstrates a warm musical communication between the hammer dulcimer and guitar, a passionate exchange that also shows through on many other cuts, especially the slower pieces. Marcille researches her tunes carefully and did a superb job reflecting this research on the liner notes.
